Job Title:Visiting Assistant Professor in Art EducationDepartment:Arts and Sciences | Arts Administration Education and Policy

Position Overview

The Ohio State University's Department of Arts Administration, Education, and Policy (AAEP) invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) in Art Education to begin August 15, 2025. This is a one year appointment with the possibility to extend for up to 2 additional years based on performance and availability of funding. The VAP will teach 3 courses per semester, for a total of 6 courses per academic year. The VAP will teach across all Art Education academic programs (i.e. BAE, MA, PhD), including the MA in Art Education Online program. AAEP faculty and programs are committed to growing and expanding the field and are at the forefront of innovative approaches to exploring the intersections of arts and culture. We seek candidates whose professional experience, research, teaching, and service demonstrate deep disciplinary knowledge in Art Education.

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate art education courses in person and online
  • Engage in innovative teaching and curriculum development.
  • Engage in undergraduate and graduate student advising and mentorship
  • Maintain an active scholarship agenda
  • Contribute to the school, college, university, and community through service.
  • Participate in relevant professional organizations.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required:

  • Terminal degree in Art Education or related field (e.g. Ph.D., Ed.D.) by August 15, 2025.
  • Experience teaching in higher education setting (both undergraduate and graduate)
  • Research contributions (including but not limited to scholarly publications) that are national in scope and respond to contemporary perspectives in art education
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Promise of a sustainable research trajectory for career advancement

Desired:

  • Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building a diverse intellectual community, in line with OSU's Shared Values (see below in the University Description).
  • Will conduct research in one or more of the following areas: critical disability studies, accessibility, critical theory, creative artmaking practices, curriculum development and assessment.
  • Experience mentoring students and early-career professionals
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of art education
  • Demonstrated innovative and experimental approaches to collegiate curriculum development and teaching.

  • Attachment 4: Teaching Statement: A statement of your approaches, experience and philosophy regarding your teaching, learning, and mentoring.
