Position Overview for the Trauma Registrar:
Trauma Data Management: Identify trauma patients by abstracting medical records, coding diagnoses using ICD-9 criteria, and ensuring accurate trauma registry data collection and submission to county and state authorities.
Quality Assurance and Reporting: Maintain the quality of trauma registry data by resolving data issues and producing reports for injury research, quality improvement, and administrative purposes.
Multidisciplinary Support: Actively participate as a member of the healthcare support team, managing departmental records, maintaining reference materials, and supporting process improvement initiatives.
Customer Service and Outreach: Provide timely responses to patient, family, and department inquiries while participating in community outreach activities and creating educational materials for patient and professional use.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required, with at least 1 year of relevant experience, particularly in trauma data abstraction and coding.
Proficient in ICD-9 Coding: Strong knowledge of ICD-9 coding, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to accurately abstract and code diagnosis and treatment information from medical records.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word) for data management and reporting, with the ability to work with complex databases and perform analytical calculations.
Communication and Confidentiality: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a deep understanding of medical confidentiality laws and the ability to work within regulatory and confidentiality standards.
