JOB TITLE/LOCATION:

Test Lab Technician - Oxford, CT

Position Summary:

The Corporate Test Facility in Oxford, CT, services all divisions of RBC. A Test Technician at RBC Bearings needs to do a variety of tasks ranging from running tests, compiling data, and working to help keep all lab equipment maintained and calibrated. At the direction of the test engineer the test technician will become capable to operate all test machines, understand and perform all necessary maintenance, and perform basic repairs as necessary. The test technician must be a team player that has an obsessive drive to succeed within a fast paced, challenging, and demanding environment. A successful candidate will be eager to learn and utilize time effectively.

Principal Responsibilities:

Test Laboratories:

  • Fabricate components/test specimens using lathe, mill, drill press, and other basic shop equipment to support lab activities. Grit blast, clean, prep and bond bearing materials/specimens for testing as directed.
  • Ability to efficiently set-up and break down mechanical component and material tests per instructions and do preliminary evaluation of tested specimens.
  • Maintain instrument calibration, equipment preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Maintain and improve test lab systems and organization.
  • Repair, preventative maintenance, and overhaul of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems on existing test equipment.
  • Assist with assembly and troubleshooting of new test equipment.
  • Assist in the preparation of metallurgical samples for inspection.
  • Assist in the measurement of retained austenite and hardness of samples.
  • Perform all aspects of the job safely and responsibly.
  • Attendance at work is an essential function of the job

EDUCATION:
  • Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering

EXPERIENCE:
  • 2-5 years of related mechanical experience, an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred but not required.
  • Mechanical aptitude is a must.
  • Experience with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hydraulic systems is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with industrial PLC programming, simple logic controls, and/or electro-mechanical systems is desired.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel desirable, experience with LabVIEW and/or Matlab would be beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills, capability to interact with engineers and understand verbal and written instructions.
