Job Description:
JOB DUTIES: Under the direction of the Regional Superintendent be responsible for the protection and preservation of Victoria Springs State Recreation Area. Which includes the development and implementation of visitor and customer service, interpretation, maintenance programs, cultural and natural resource management, land management, facility preservation and visitor protection. The incumbent will supervise and carry out various park operating tasks involved in cabin, campground and day-use area operation and maintenance, to include the following: Division and area promotion; traffic control; area patrol and foster compliance of park rules and regulations; fire suppression; equipment, grounds and facility maintenance and repair; noxious weed management, the operation of machinery, equipment and tools in performance of duties. Maintain and develop partnerships with area communities and other stakeholders. The incumbent will also hire, train, and supervise a seasonal workforce, ensuring equal opportunity for all employees supervised; maintain records and prepare appropriate reports; collect fees, accounting for and depositing same. Perform other duties as assigned and some travel may be required.
Note: Housing is provided.
Requirements/ Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in park/recreation management or a related field; (wildlife, fisheries, natural resources sciences, public administration, history, cultural resource preservation or interpretation, travel and tourism, and planning) AND one year related experience. Related coursework/training and/or experience in park/recreation management or related field may substitute for the Bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
Other: Driver's license is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Knowledge of park administration and operation and maintenance of park facilities, equipment and grounds and, departmental rules and regulations. Knowledge of the fundamentals of cultural and natural resource management. Knowledge of accounting and accountability of revenue collection. Knowledge of interpretation and education programming. Skill in MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Skill in effective verbal and written communication. Skill in planning, assigning, and/or supervising the work of others. Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions. Skill in public relations and developing beneficial relationships and promotional partnerships with volunteer groups and other stakeholders. Ability to coordinate maintenance, repair, or construction of park facilities, grounds and equipment. Ability to complete correspondence, report, presentation, and special assignments. Ability to carry-out public and employee safety programs. Ability to enforce park rules and regulations in a fair and consistent manner. Ability to handle complaints, emergencies, stressful situations, and large groups of people. Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials that may exceed 50 lbs.
