Systems Engineer I Unix/Linux
Reporting to the Open Systems Manager, the System Engineer I works on systems running the Unix and or Linux operating system.
Role and Responsibilities:
• Administration and support of Citrix Application Delivery Controllers (ADC) and related Citrix platform technologies
• Administration and configuration of cloud infrastructure services such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud
• Data aggregation and enterprise log collection and analytics technologies, specifically Splunk Enterprise
• Deployment, and administration of large quantities of Citrix Application Delivery Controller (ADC) instances for application delivery and load balancing
• Provide application and infrastructure designs that incorporate high availability, appropriate scaling, performance, and monitoring best practices for various application environments
• Manage multiple and competing project priorities, including weekly status reporting across multiple technology stacks
• Support multiple and differing technologies related to application delivery, development, deployment, and analysis both on-premise and in the cloud
• Document upgrades, process, configuration changes, and enhancements to enterprise wide systems and services, to both a technical and non-technical audience, following best practices and defined ITIL change management process and procedure
• Administer and configure application runtimes on an enterprise scale across multiple geographic data centers and public/private cloud services
• Strong understanding of authentication and authorization concepts such as SAML 2.0, OpenID, OAuth, multi-factor authentication, conditional access, as well as roles based authorization
• Provide application and infrastructure designs that incorporate high availability, appropriate scaling, performance, and monitoring best practices for various application environments
• Provide 24 hour support when needed and participate in a periodic on call rotation

Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
• This position requires occasional local travel to MGB sites, vendors, and/or conferences
• Hospital work environment working conditions include possible exposure to diseases or infections and may require safety gear (PPE) such as gloves and mask.
• Normal office working conditions. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear; use hands to finger; handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop; kneel; or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception.
On-call rotation required
Hybrid model, must be flexible for onsite meetings
Eastern Business Hours, Onsite and Remote working model with planned onsite visits to MGB sites / and MGB Assembly Row in Somerville, MA, Employee must be flexible for variable and / or scheduled hybrid model may be required in 2025.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of server administration experience with IBM AIX
• 5+ years of server administration experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
• Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) not required but preferred
• Bachelor's degree required
• Minimum of 5 years of technical experience in the capacity of server administrator/engineer focused on web technologies and security
• Expert knowledge of at least one scripting language such as PowerShell or Python. Knowledge will be required in various situations, related to both application and systems management.
• Experience with administration of cloud services such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or Google cloud
• Experience with application development utilizing .NET or other development platforms is a plus
• Professional certifications a plus
Skills for Success
• Exceptional scripting experience in Unix and/or Linux
• Experience with Symmetrix storage and Solutions Enabler strongly preferred
• Experience with Dell PowerProtect helpful
• Experience managing servers in an Epic and Intersystems environment
• Must have expert knowledge of Windows operating systems and IIS
• Basic experience with various Linux platforms and command line utilities
• Experience with identity and access management concepts and technologies, such as single sign on, multifactor authentication, and federation (SAML 2.0, OpenID/OAuth)
• General experience with x.509 PKI certificate concepts, deployment, management, and renewal across multiple certificate authorities and platforms
• General experience supporting or utilizing all other layers of technology, including but not limited to web services and APIs, networking concepts, DNS, firewalls, as well as database environments such as Microsoft SQL, MySQL
• General knowledge and experience with directory services such as Active Directory, standalone LDAP directory services, and universal directory services
• General knowledge with popular SaaS offerings such as Microsoft 365, and Okta
• Confident, respectful, and responsive communicator with active listening skills, and the ability to speak to all levels of business and technology utilizing communication tools such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom, as well as email and in-person
• Willingness and eagerness to learn new technology concepts and platforms with as needed guidance from peers and management
