Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Advising, the Success Coach/Department of Labor Liaison is responsible for advising, registering, and coaching students enrolled in courses located at Northeast State at Kingsport and Northeast State at Gray. The Success Coach/Liaison is the dedicated advisor for Northeast State students utilizing the Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and/or the Trade Adjustment Act (TAA) in cooperation with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD) and the First Tennessee Development District (FTDD).
Job Duties
* Provide advising and coaching to students enrolled in courses located at Northeast State at Kingsport and Northeast State at Gray.
* Serve as the dedicated advisor for Northeast State students utilizing the Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and/or the Trade Adjustment Act (TAA) in cooperation with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD) and the First Tennessee Development District (FTDD).
* Provide registration advice and assistance to prospective and enrolled students.
* Provide transfer advising to students interested in transferring to a 4-year institution.
* Develop degree plans, prepare contracts, and monitor progress/compliance with program guidelines for dislocated workers enrolled at the institution through special sponsorship.
* Work with the Research, Analytics, and Planning Office to compile and submit yearly program data to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission as requested for enrolled dislocated workers.
* Serve as the TDLWD contact and be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date information for the Northeast State training programs listed on the Tennessee.Gov website.
* Assist students in accessing resources for academic, financial, and/or personal support.
* Maintain a flexible schedule for student appointments, including evening hours as needed.
* Conduct classroom presentations and workshops on topics relevant to student success as appropriate.
* Assist with the implementation of initiatives to improve student success/retention/degree completion.
* Complete other assignments as directed by supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and one year of postsecondary student-facing experience working with students for academic advising, registration, and/or other student services related to enrollment and/or retention
OR
* Associate's degree from an accredited institution and three years of postsecondary student-facing experience working with students for academic advising, registration, and/or other student services related to enrollment and/or retention
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working with community college students
* Experience working in career and workforce development services
* Familiarity with WIOA, TAA, TDLWD, and FTDD policies and procedures in a college setting
* Knowledge of data-based student record systems, i.e. Banner or Slate
* Experience with maintaining websites
* Conversational ability or fluency in a second language
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Technology Skills: MS Office suite; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Strong organizational and time management skills
* In all duties assigned, show a commitment to customer service to include students, college employees, and the community served by Northeast State.
* Ability to work independently
* Understanding the role academic advising plays in student success and retention.
Additional Notes:
Employee's primary place of employment will be Northeast State at Kingsport but will be required to travel to Northeast State at Gray campus one day a week during Fall and Spring semesters. Employee will also be required to travel to the Blountville campus to assist with special registration events.
