The University of Iowa Community Clinics is seeking a patient centered 60% WEO Staff Nurse (24 hours a week) to work in our our UICC Urgent Care Clinics. Our Urgent Care Staff Nurses are responsible for caring for a wide variety of patients from newborn to geriatric. Their primary job duties include (but are not limited to) rooming, medication administration, lab collection and processing. This position is part of a dynamic and fast paced environment, rich with opportunities for learning and growth. We utilize a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that encourages team work to provide the most comprehensive care to our patients. This position will mainly support our Holiday Road and Scott Blvd. locations but could also travel to other clinic locations based on clinical needs/hours.

Duties to include:
- Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
- Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
- Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
- Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response.
- Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
- Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
- Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions.
- Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards

Percent of Time: 60% WEO (24 hours per week)
Schedule: WEO hours of Saturday and Sunday between 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, holidays falling on weekend time, no on-call time.
Location: Iowa City, IA and surrounding cities (travel to other clinics based on clinical needs/hours)

Salary $55,910 - $102,559
(based on years of experience)Education - An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BSN), Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
Required Qualifications - Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire
- Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
- General computer skills are required.
- Current course completion card in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association (within 60 days of hire)
- Current course completion card in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association within 6 months of hire.
- Current course completion card in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) by the American Heart Association within 6 months of hire.
Desired Qualifications - Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
- If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
- 1 - 3 years of pediatric nursing experience.
- 1 - 3 years of problem solving experience.
- 1 - 3 years of cardiac nursing experience.
- 1 - 3 years acute patient care experience within Emergency Department, Cardiac Unit, Urgent Care and/or Walk-In Clinic area(s).
- Ambulatory nursing care experience, including telephone triage experience in the outpatient setting.
