Job Description Summary:
The Payments Engineering organization builds and maintains the highly scalable, available, secure, and compliant payments platform of PayPal. This platform helps PayPal's consumers and merchants to move and manage their money. This role is for the Instrument Processing Platform team, which is part of the Payments Async settlement platform team in NA.

Job Description:

A customer and employee focused, hands-on full stack engineering manager, responsible for managing a team of engineers who will be designing, implementing, and delivering state of the art Settlement payments platform of PayPal. The ideal candidate for the role will be a combination of
a) a "seasoned technologist" with strong experience in building large-scale distributed transaction processing systems and solving complex problems.
b) a "customer champion" who has a flair for building products that delight customers and grow business presence.
c) a "people leader" who has keen inclination to attract, groom and develop a talented and engaged team.
d) a "collaborative partner" willing to build trusts, relationships, and networks across the company to meet business goals.

What do you need to bring
  • Rich experience leading backend development teams building high performant, secure, scalable cost effective back-end applications, good understanding of deployment methods and various database technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience with large-scale software architecture and development, and/or high-volume websites and web services.
  • Solid understanding of web-scale architectural considerations such as security, performance, scalability, reliability etc.
  • Proven experience in both real-time online transaction processing systems as well as non-real time asynchronous processing.
  • Strong Object oriented programming skills and expertise in Java/J2EE
  • Experience with REST API's, Web Services, Unit Testing and build tools.
  • Working experience with databases such as Oracle/MySQL etc.
  • Exposure to building and deploying Cloud native software is a plus.
  • Exposure to cloud native/compatible databases like Spanner, Postgre SQL, Dynamo, etc is a plus.
  • Exposure and understanding of NoSQL databases and microservices is a plus.
