Clinical Social Worker, LCSW/LICSW /40 Hours/ OB-Obstetrics at MGH Health Centers

- The Clinical Social Worker (LICSW or LCSW) is a key member of the interdisciplinary team who provides and oversees the provision of behavioral health and psychosocial care for patients who receive their obstetrical (OB) care at the MGH Revere, Chelsea, and Charlestown Healthcare Center with possibility of extending support to patients at other OB clinics across the Mass General Brigham (MGB) network.
- The Clinical Social Worker conducts bio-psychosocial assessments, provides intervention and treatment (therapy) as indicated. The Clinical Social Worker will engage collaboratively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to address psychosocial, environmental, and cultural issues to maximize emotional, social, and physical wellbeing. The Clinical Social Worker collaborates with and provides clinical support to other hospital wide programs and community resources to optimize patient wellbeing. The Clinical Social Worker leads efforts around the management of psychiatric disorders for the team's patients.
- The Clinical Social Worker should demonstrate prudent clinical judgment based on established professional standards and guidelines, effective problem-solving skills, critical thinking, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, experience with team-based care, creativity, flexibility, and the ability to multi-task.

The Clinical Social Worker will also serve as a liaison for, and inform eligible participants about, the STEPS for PPD research study. This study is conducted by The Center for Women's Mental Health in collaboration with the Departments of Obstetrics and Psychiatry at Mass General Brigham. It ultimately aims to ensure that MGB patients are universally screened for postpartum depression and if they do screen positive are referred to receive adequate care and treatment of symptoms.

This position is grant supported for approximately one year, and if eliminated, you will not be eligible for severance pay.
The Clinical Social Worker reports directly to the assigned Social Work Manager.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities May Include:Behavioral Health
- Provide education and supportive counseling to patients identified with Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders.
- Provide ongoing individual and family counseling related to adjustment to diagnosis and refer to community providers for therapy, medication management, support groups and other concrete needs.
- Develop and run groups for patient population.
- Provide comprehensive biopsychosocial evaluations in cooperation with patient, family, and interdisciplinary team, and develop treatment plans based on patient needs/goals.
- Continually assess patient's behavioral health status and provide evidence-based interventions and strategies to improve patient/family functioning and/or medical adherence.
- Provide recommendation and coordination of external resources based on assessment and collaboration with patient/family.
- Provide crisis counseling and intervention for patient population as needed.
- Provide risk assessment and intervention as part of the interdisciplinary team, with emphasis on harm reduction. When necessary, refer to and coordinate with appropriate emergency services.
- Act as the lead liaison between patient and psychiatrist and other key treatment providers.
Care Management
- Identify patients who are at high risk and/or have multiple or complex psychosocial needs.
- Provide resources as needed to encourage patient's progress, and provide evidence based psychotherapeutic interventions to assist patient in accomplishing treatment goals.
- Collaborate with various medical providers and/or additional service providers to coordinate care.
- Act as primary coordinator/manager of patient care, ensuring communication among providers and with patient.
- Act as a liaison with a wide range of collateral systems for effective patient care
- Oversee the update of community resource information.
Leadership, Teaching and Education:
- Assesses patient/family learning needs, styles, and readiness. Educates patients/families based on treatment plan, identifies barriers to care, diversity issues and learning styles.
- Mentors and may supervise students and staff. May teach in Departmental and Hospital seminars, workshops, and rounds.
- Demonstrates expert social work clinical practice within the department and with interdisciplinary staff. Provides education and consultation to interdisciplinary health care providers, social work staff and community on psychosocial issues for patients.
- Demonstrates active, ongoing commitment to professional growth and development of self and creates an environment conducive to the professional growth of others.
- Participates in Departmental and Hospital committees. May participate in social work research.
- Collaborate and meet regularly with the STEPS for PPD research team to support the implementation and management of the study at the MGH OB community clinics.
Professional DevelopmentAs a Clinical Social Work Leader:
- Demonstrates expert clinical social work and serves as a mentor within the department and with interdisciplinary staff.

- Provides clinical consultation and supervision to social work staff and interns.
- Directs the implementation and facilitation of psycho-educational support groups and other supportive / educational forums in collaboration with the Director of Social Work and other leadership, to promote patient/family, staff, and community education.
- Provides education and consultation to interdisciplinary health care providers, social work staff and community on psychosocial issues for patients.
- Demonstrates active commitment to professional growth and development of social work staff regarding psycho-educational support groups and research.
- Meets continuing education requirements to maintain licensure in Massachusetts.
- Pursues continuing education opportunities in managed care, and care coordination concepts and practice.
Organizational/Administrative Skills:
- Takes responsibility for own administrative duties, including timely and appropriate documentation in patient medical records, timely and accurate daily reporting of activities and Hospital's scheduling systems, and accurate reporting of time worked.
- Provides clinical documentation including psychosocial assessment, progress notes, and billing compliance (if appropriate).
- Attends and participates in Staff Meetings and interdisciplinary meetings/rounds.

- Clinical experience, understanding of, and comfort working with patients of all ages who suffer complex medical and psychiatric problems; ability to work with the families of such patients, and ability to help patients and families understand and access the resources required to support care.

- Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated competency in age specific behaviors.
- Knowledge of specific medical/psychiatric illnesses, procedures, and treatments.
- Excellent clinical social work assessment and crisis intervention knowledge and skills.
- Strong understanding of psychiatric and family system problems, and ability to use this understanding to formulate succinct case summaries.
- Knowledge of community agencies/resources. Ability to advocate/negotiate systems for/with patients and families.
- Demonstrated ability to understand the role of social worker in a complex, fast-paced medical environment.
- Demonstrated ability to consult/teach.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effective orally and in writing. Excellent interpersonal skills including negotiation skills necessary to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications Education: Master of Social Work Degree (MSW) from an accredited program required.
Licensure: Current Massachusetts Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) required.
Experience: Previous clinical social work experience in an outpatient setting preferred.
Language: Prefer Bilingual Spanish language skills.
