As a Senior Staff Optical Systems Engineer you are an expert in optical systems, and will provide technical leadership to support new product development and innovation for instrumentation used in genetic analysis.

What will you do?

  • Understand customers and passionately represent their needs in optical system product requirements
  • Partner with product management to translate customer needs into optical system requirements
  • Architect and design optical systems
  • Develop optical models, analyze optical tolerance stack-ups, and lead sensitivity analysis
  • Partner with the Operations team to transfer optical system design to manufacturing
How will you get here:

Education

BS/MS/Ph.D. degree in a Optical Engineering field, Applied Physics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.

Experience
  • 10+ years in a technical leadership role focused on optical systems
  • Considerable experience in developing moderate complexity RUO instrumentation
  • Has been optics lead or sub-team lead through at least two product development cycles which incorporate fluorescent based imaging systems
  • Experience building, and maintaining optics lab
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Deep understanding of fluorescence based optical detection systems
  • Familiar with the key technical elements of genetic analyzers
  • Competent in hands-on optical experiments, including methods and tools for optical alignment
  • Experience with optical modeling tools, including ZEMAX
  • Broad knowledge of materials and processes used in manufacture of optical components
  • Has cultivated and can take advantage of a network of optics experts and vendors
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $163,100.00-$217,400.00.
