The UI Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) is seeking a full-time (100%) Senior Sonographer or Sonographer to perform diagnostic examinations on patients of all ages using ultrasonic and plethysmographic instrumentation involving techniques and the exercise of independent professional judgment.
Vascular Lab Sonographers will perform a variety of vascular procedures and assist in invasive procedures, participate in teaching, evaluating and/or advising students, residents, and fellows in areas of expertise.
The department intends to hire for either Senior Sonographer, or Sonographer, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please indicate in your application materials the position you wish to be considered for or indicate both.
Duties to include:
• Performs specialized diagnostic non-invasive vascular testing of the peripheral arterial, venous and cerebrovascular circulation.
• Evaluates the peripheral vessels with Duplex ultrasound, continuous wave Doppler or plethysmography.
• Records diameter measurements to determine abdominal or popliteal aneurysms by Duplex ultrasound.
• Uses spectrum analysis to determine blood flow factors.
• Uses spectral Doppler Velocities to determine percentage of carotid artery stenosis.
• Assesses deep veins for patency; evaluates valvular incompetence.
• Evaluates cerebrovascular, arterial, extracranial and intracranial circulation.
• Evaluates insitu bypass graft for patency, stenosis, occlusion or fistulas; rules out pseudoaneurysms.
• Accumulates test data on appropriate forms and diagnoses the degree of disease.
• Responds to telephone inquiries and patient consultations from residents, staff and others regarding patient examinations or test results.
• Consults with staff physicians if a second modality is necessary for further evaluation or if a critical condition warrants immediate attention.
• Assumes responsibility for test evaluation and interpretation of test results.
• Assists in development of new techniques.
• Attends continuing education programs as specified by the ARDMS.
• Maintains quality control of laboratory equipment. Orders and maintains inventory of laboratory supplies. Calibrates and conducts routine maintenance of instrumentation.
• Maintains patient clinical files and prepares patient charges for laboratory services.
• Follow general policies and procedures in accordance with the regulations of UI Health Care, the Carver College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, and UI Heart and Vascular Center (HVC).
• Assist with policy development and review.
• Function as a preceptor for orientation of new team members and students.
• Establish and maintain standards of collaborative interaction among peers and employees that is characterized by respect, honesty and service; assure that all unit members are held to similar standards and ethics.
• Ability to provide rotating, on-call coverage on weekends (Saturday/Sunday) and University Holidays as assigned.
• Provide coverage for the UI Heart and Vascular Center at Iowa River Landing (IRL) as needed/assigned.
• Maintain continuing education as specified by the ARDMS and IAC.
• Contribute to preparation for IAC accreditation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
