Job Description Summary:
What you need to know about the role:
The Identity Engineering team is responsible for providing Identity & Access Management capabilities for PayPal users and partners. We design, develop, and enhance services that are called across every interaction between PayPal and its users and partners. Our solutions must scale across billions of such interactions, working with petabyte plus data, integrating with various other APIs in real-time and providing high availability and configurability to the business. To achieve this, we are always looking at advances in technology and science and tying those back to business needs.

As the Senior member of the Identity Engineering organization, you will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and maintaining the company's identity and access management systems focusing on web applications and fundamentals. This role is critical in ensuring the security, scalability, and efficiency of the identity infrastructure, aligning with business objectives and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Web application technologies, Mobile devices, Mobile OS and system libraries, hands-on experience building web components and application, identity and access management technologies, strong leadership skills, a strategic mindset, and motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment. You will architect and implement robust solutions to complex problems. Our team is fast and innovative, following agile methodologies. Your day-to-day:

  • Engage with multiple teams of highly talented engineers and architects to design and develop highly scalable, secure and configurable identity solutions that meet the needs of our customers and stakeholders.
  • Actively engage with leadership across Product, Architecture, Design and Engineering to design, propose, discuss and refine new features and functionality.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams, IT, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver innovative identity solutions that meet organizational needs.
  • Communicate with stakeholders on technical standards, principles, methodologies and trends.
  • Enhance overall system operational characteristics by establishing best practices for code quality, reduction in tech debt, building frameworks or shared techniques to improve engineering effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities for refactoring, API changes, solution designs and other types of tech debt remediation.
  • Influence management for driving technical decision-making for the right selection of technology by giving forthright, understandable, and actionable advice.
  • Work with standards defining organizations to understand the evolving standards, identify gaps, provide inputs on platform gaps, contribute to roadmap planning to build world class CIAM platform.
  • Drive decision-making with team members with different views for simple to complex problems with the business requirements to help synthesize the best solution.
  • Engage with business team, highly analytical and have experience designing and implementing A/B tests, with approach like data-based experiments. You know exactly what and how to track business metrics and KPIs.

Required Skills:
  • You must have experience in modern technologies such as JavaScript, Typescript, React, NextJs, NodeJS, GraphQL
  • You must have significant business knowledge and technical expertise in application design and architecture, as well as knowledge of related domains of technical architectures (network, security, and infrastructure engineering, information architectures, and data architectures).
  • Knowledge of Identity standards such as OAuth 2.0, Open ID Connect, SCIM etc.
  • Must be a self- starter, work independently or as a team member, and have strong communication skills in interfacing with business partners and the Technology.
  • Deep understanding of modern web applications design architecture, good API design patterns, performance, and scale.
  • Deep understanding of application security, information security, web application fundamentals, authentication & authorization protocols.
  • Deep understanding of customer interaction patterns and knowledge of devices, browsers, mobile web, Native apps and related integration patterns and best practices.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience, such as being an architect or tech lead for high impact customer facing product development.
  • Understands use cases for advanced design patterns to implement efficient code.
  • Strong OOP skills, with ability to analyze requirements and transform into scalable software designs.
  • Experience designing and building web services/microservices
  • Knowledge of SQL and other/NoSQL/modern database and storage technologies. Desired understanding of Oracle, JDBC and ORM frameworks (e.g. Hibernate).
  • Serve as a strong advocate of code craftsmanship, good coding standards and use of tools that will improve the quality of the delivered code.
  • Experience with using Agile/Scrum methodology for software development.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • A solid grounding in Computer Science fundamentals.
  • 15+ years of experience building successful production software systems.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Identity Access Management domain & solid understanding of Identity open standards and specs.
