Baker Botts, a leading global law firm, is seeking a Senior Manager of Diversity and Inclusion to join our growing team. The Senior Manager of Diversity and Inclusion will be responsible for supporting the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer and the Diversity Committee in developing strategy and implementing the Firm’s diversity initiatives. This is a Firmwide, full-time, exempt position with excellent benefits and can be resident in our Austin, Dallas, Houston, Palo Alto, San Francisco, or Washington D.C. offices. The primary job functions of the Senior Manager of Diversity and Inclusion include, but are not limited to:

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Development and Collaboration

  • Partner with the Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer (CDIO) to design, implement, and evolve DE&I strategies and programs that promote awareness, foster education, and encourage meaningful conversations about diversity and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with the CDIO to analyze DE&I metrics, present findings, and recommend program enhancements to key leadership stakeholders.
  • Partner with internal leaders (e.g., Directors of Recruiting, Human Resources, Client Development, and Professional Development) to advance the recruitment, retention, and professional growth of diverse talent.
  • Work with the Chief Client Officer and Director of Client Development to integrate DE&I priorities into client-facing initiatives.
  • Partner with Human Resources on developing and implementing inclusive workplace policies.
  • Serve as the primary interface with the Staff Liaison Committee, Associate Liaison Committee, and the Firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
Program and Initiative Management
  • Oversee and manage the Firm’s Diversity in Action Sponsorship Program.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Chairs of the Firm’s Affinity Groups.
  • Develop and manage DE&I-focused seminars, workshops, and training programs.
  • Drive initiatives that enhance inclusivity and representation of underrepresented groups at all levels of the organization.
Data and Metrics
  • Manage the collection, analysis, and benchmarking of DE&I data, trends, and metrics, including the creation of detailed reports and presentations.
  • Oversee diversity surveys, client data requests, and responses to external/internal surveys, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Utilize headcount and productivity metrics to produce data analyses and visual presentations.
  • Develop and track metrics that assess program effectiveness and identify gaps in DE&I initiatives.
Communications and Reporting
  • Manage content creation for DE&I communication materials, including newsletters, intranet updates, brochures, and other marketing collateral.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for annual and monthly DE&I communications, such as year-end reviews and heritage month initiatives.
Stakeholder Engagement and Representation
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on DE&I topics within the Firm.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, allies, and DE&I champions to advance the DE&I agenda.
  • Represent the Firm at external DE&I events, meetings, and conferences.
External and Industry Engagement
  • Interface with external vendors and organizations to facilitate diversity initiatives and projects.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for Diversity & Inclusion awards and recognition.
  • Stay informed on the latest trends and best practices in DE&I across law firms and other industries.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Attend DE&I-related meetings and retreats as appropriate.
  • Travel to other US offices or conferences as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested by the CDIO.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctorate or Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience directly managing DE&I initiatives.
  • At least 5 years of related experience and/or project management experience in a law firm, government agency, or professional services organization.
  • Proven experience in diversity initiatives required; experience in recruiting, marketing, communications, or professional development is a plus.
  • Exceptional writing, research, and organizational skills with a detail-oriented and proactive approach to projects.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, coupled with a strong client-service orientation and a genuine interest in diversity and inclusion issues.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), with expertise in PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with attorneys and staff at all levels in a large law firm environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and highly sensitive information with discretion.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience creating content for web and print publications.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, intellectually demanding environment.
Extent of Public Contact (Within and outside the Firm)

This position requires contact with individuals within the firm as follows:
  • A high degree of contact with departments across the firm including recruiting, professional development, human resources, and information technology.
  • A high degree of interaction with firm lawyers.
This position requires contact with individuals outside the firm as follows:
  • A high degree of contact with vendors/suppliers and other organizations on the facilitation of various diversity activities and projects.
  • Moderate to high degree of contact with firm clients.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to work at a computer and telephone for extensive periods of time.
  • Must be able to routinely lift and carry files and other items up to 10 pounds; and
  • Must be able to function in a standard office environment.
Working Condition and Environment
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Position is full-time and requires a five-day workweek and standard hours as outlined in the firm policy manual.
  • Work may require more than the regularly scheduled hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position. Must be available to work additional hours, including weekend hours, when necessary to meet established deadlines or stay current with occasional peaks in workload. Must be willing to change regular work schedule to meet the needs of the Firm.
  • Must be able to perform essential duties of the position with time constraints and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work well in high pressure environments.
  • This role may be hybrid and will require a minimum of three days per week (or at least 60%) present in the office, and up to two days per week (40%) may be performed remotely.

If this position is placed and worked in the Washington office of Baker Botts L.L.P., the salary range is $136,000-170,000. If this position is placed and worked in a California office of Baker Botts L.L.P., the salary range is $148,000-185,000.
