The Senior Legacy Planning Officer is responsible for developing relationship and executing strategies that leverage planned gift income to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. This position will maintain a portfolio that will consist of prospects in assessment cultivation solicitation stewardship, resulting in approximately $4M annually.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Professional Knowledge- Performs well in a collaborative environment and is motivated bye the Cincinnati Children's mission and vision. Proven fundraising performance. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Possesses a strong grasp of development principles and a strong working knowledge of development support functions such as prospect research pipeline development, communications, stewardship, annual funds and events. Experience in developing and executing marketing strategies. Computer literate and working knowledge of software applications. Ability to travel extensively in the greater tri-state area and when needed to visit with prospects/donors across the nation.
  • Fundraising Specific- Identify, assess, cultivate, solicit and close planned gifts from individuals. Develops cultivation and solicitation strategies for each individual. Strategically move planned gift prospects through the development cycle from qualification to cultivation to solicitation to closing to stewardship. Understands, identifies, suggests and utilizes multiple giving vehicles for the donor. Uses moves management database system to track progress and results. Coordinates donor interests with the priorities of the organization and develops funding proposals to match interests with needs.
  • External Communications- The Senior Legacy Planning Officer also fulfills an important, externally oriented role, representing Cincinnati Children's to donors, prospects, medical center leaders, professional advisors, volunteers and potentially, national resources as part of the overall effort to raise awareness of and generate support for Cincinnati Children's both locally and nationally. Specific tasks may include preparing written and verbal presentations and proposals and delivering this information personally to potential funders, representing CCHMC at family foundation and not-for -profit board meetings, communicating on behalf of CCHMC in donor meetings, at events, in fundraising committee meetings and at check presentations. Responsible for all written communications with donors, such as gift verification letters and emails, gift agreement drafts, and email messages to coordinate medical center donor visits with leadership. Helps lead, recruit and staff campaign and special project committees.
  • Crossfunctional Project Management: Lead one or more targeted major gift fund-raising projects and are accountable for reaching project goals. Serves a leader and point person for major gift and grateful patient fundraising referrals and activities with approximately five or more internal clinical/research divisions with the hospital, developing funding opportunities and leading others with prospects interested in their areas of responsibility, and managing a Foundation Board Task Force focused on a priority fundraising area. Must remain current on legal and programmatic changes affecting development functions.
  • Relationship Management Specific- Oversees and manages a portfolio of donors and prospects. Established a program of personal visits with past, current, and prospective planned giving donors. Senior gift planning offer also provides staff support to other leadership as needed and requested by Director of Legacy Planning. Effectively utilizes resources of department, medical center and CCHMC personnel. Works collaboratively with frontline fundraisers and other development staff to maximize donors' gifts to support CCHMC. Also provides primary stewardship of legacy society members to grow already existing planned gifts, including personalized outreach.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • At least seven years' related experience
  • Valid state driver's license and access to personal vehicle

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of professional fundraising experience including at least three years demonstrated success raising planned gifts from individual donors face to face OR seven years of professional estate or financial planning experience including at least three years of demonstrated success raising major or planned gifts from individual donors face to face or related experience
  • Working knowledge of current gift planning and fundraising trends, techniques, and strategies
  • Development experience and proven track record of success raising planned gifts in a large, complex medical center or large university setting.
  • Advanced degree or certification in financial and/or tax field, such as JD, MBA, CTFA, CFRE, CFA, CPA, or CAP.
