Job Summary:

This position will report to the Vice President of Projects Delivery in Renewables Onshore and be responsible for successful EPC project management, construction services management of all approved strategic wind and solar projects with the Onshore Renewables Business. The focus includes supporting development of the short and long-term growth plan for wind and solar and delivering fully executed and constructed wind and solar projects to the operations team.

Senior Director of Construction will be responsible for execution and construction of wind and solar projects in all parts of the continental United States.

Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to lead a department of construction professionals and have had the responsibility for large projects budgets across a broad portion of the United States with preference for candidates with experience in renewable energy construction. As part of executing construction projects, the candidate must have experience in creating and leading a culture where safety is the most important thing we do. Candidates must have proven capabilities to lead and direct establishment of long and short-term objectives, development of plans to meet these objectives and production of successful results against these plans for overall projects construction. The role will require influencing internal stakeholders and other groups within the business to achieve success. The role also involves interaction with external stakeholders including contractor and equipment suppliers. It will require schedule and budget management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

This position provides leadership of a dynamic team of construction professionals to successfully deliver projects beyond expectation with focus on safety, quality, on time delivery and cost efficiency. Some of the tasks under the leadership and direction of the Construction group include:

  • Execute, construct, and manage wind and solar projects contractors, sub-contractors, consultants and suppliers EPC and equipment supply contracts and their revisions, changes, and additions.
  • Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to construction and balance of plant contractors, suppliers, construction staff and employees.
  • Execute and review budgets for the construction projects.
  • Execute schedule scenarios for projects meeting the milestone obligations in contracts.
  • Understand complex permitting conditions and apply them to the execution of project plans.
  • Implement safety and quality control programs to construction projects.
  • Investigate damage, accidents, or delays at construction sites to ensure proper procedure are being carried out.
  • Evaluate construction methods and determine cost effectiveness of plans.

Additionally, the Senior Director of Construction is responsible for the following functions:
  • Key member of the Onshore Renewables Project Delivery staff to support development of short and long-term strategic plans on construction projects.
  • Responsible for reporting project plans and status to VP of Project Delivery and Renewables Onshore Management.
  • Providing coaching and mentoring to construction team members.
  • Providing leadership and communication to ensure Construction team members understand the project plans and has assembled programs, procedures, and implementation plans that fully support the strategic project plan.
  • Responsible for effective forecasting of construction projects budget.
  • Ensure process feedback to identifying process efficiencies and improvements in construction projects, including delivering quality projects and focusing on retention of "lessons learned" on construction projects.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or other relevant discipline - or equivalent combination of education & experience. Master's degree preferred. MBA desirable.
  • 15+ years industry experience in construction, operation, and maintenance of power plants
  • 10+ years of project management experience in large scale engineering and construction projects.
  • 10+ years of managerial experience encompassing a nationwide or multi-state environment.
  • Experience in Renewables is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation related communication skills.
  • Demonstrate commercial acumen (i.e., contractual, negotiation skills, financial discipline).
  • High level analytical, organizational, communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to coordinate, focus and direct employees in running complex situations, formulating project plans, securing appropriate resources, and overseeing projects construction.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively influence across organization and projects including both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Managerial experience in field operations and with field personnel is desirable.
  • Experience as a leader in a utility or IPP is very strongly preferred.
