Position Overview:

The Sr. Component Engineer will primarily provide Quality Engineering services to electro-Optical Manufacturing Operations by supporting all areas encompassing, but not limited to, specification and drawing review, performing material and vendor qualification for new and existing vendors, process improvements, troubleshooting process issues and disposition of non-conforming product. The candidate will provide timely feedback to vendors, coordinate with process engineers and work with Supply Chain to ensure any material defects are addressed quickly through the MRB process.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Responsible for defining and control of the vendor qualification process.
  • Continuous Improvement - Promote and Drive "Zero Defect" mentality within Manufacturing Operations with the use of Lean, Six-Sigma, Mistake Proofing, Measurement System Analysis, and Statistical Process control (SPC).
  • Lead problem solving activities using a structured, disciplined approach.
  • Customer collaboration / interface
  • Periodic audits of Customer quality performance.
  • Initiate and monitor Supplier Corrective Actions, escalate as necessary
  • Supplier collaboration to help facilitate changes to supplier processes/products in a way that minimizes risk and impact to the company and its customers.
  • Introduce new and revised components into production. Support the component pedigree process. Support Design and Reliability in the supplier searches and selections. Initiate and support cost-reduction initiatives through design modifications and/or supplier process improvements. Primary point of contact for supplier and component technical issues.
  • Perform data analysis and compile reports on component issues and status. Support MRB, RFD, FMA and corrective-action processes as they apply to components. Primary point of contact for supplier activities.
  • Perform, orchestrate or support supplier audits and line reviews. Participate in design, specification and drawing review processes. Participate in supplier evaluations and rating process.
  • Perform incoming inspection on electro optic products manufacturing products for example, PCB, CBA, electronics components, etc.
  • Establish SPC controls as required and support data analysis (Cpk analysis) with Product Engineering
  • Support company and facility Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) policies and programs by:
    • supporting and meeting annual and long-term ES&H objectives
    • including ES&H principles in shop procedures, equipment purchases, and equipment/product design
    • attending appropriate ES&H training
    • providing information for accident and incident investigations and assisting in implementation of corrective actions
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's (or higher) degree or related experience in manufacturing, mechanical, optical or electrical engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in quality tools, practices and procedures.
  • Fully conversant with QMS principals, certified as a quality Auditor is preferred.
  • Experience in auditing both internal processes/systems as well as auditing of suppliers.
  • Working knowledge of concepts of probability and statistics as well as aide in updating/establishing SPC studies.
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills at all levels from the shop floor to top management.
  • Proficiency and demonstrated ability to make independent, informed decisions.
  • Supplier assessment, problem resolution, and performance tracking experience
  • Working knowledge of telecommunications transmission equipment architecture and function preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills are required
