Job Description:
The Nebraska Career and Technical Education team is seeking a School Counseling Specialist to provide statewide programmatic leadership, consultative services, and technical assistance to Nebraska schools, Educational Service Units (ESUs), teacher preparation institutions, and other educational entities related to School Counseling and Career Development.

Office Location & Schedule: This position is assigned to our office located at 84th & O St, Lincoln, NE, with potential for some telework after an onboarding and training period, contingent upon proper agency approvals.
Pay Rate: $68,886.37/year
This rate is based upon available budget funds; any offer will be made at this rate.

Essential Functions
- Provides support and guidance related to school counseling programs and assessments and assists with the integration of career development frameworks and career readiness pathways into programs.
- Develops and facilitates professional learning experiences and resources related to Career Development, School Counseling, and Career and Technical Education.
- Provides guidance and technical assistance on selecting and implementing high-quality, standards-aligned instructional resources (e.g., curriculum, digital and open resources, assessment resources), and develops quality assurance processes focused on career development.
- Conducts desk audits and on-site visits to monitor federal Perkins Grant recipients and provide technical assistance related to the development and implementation of grants.
- Establishes and fosters strategic partnerships and serves as liaison among state agencies, nonprofit organizations, and businesses to achieve goals of Nebraska Career and Technical Education.

Working Conditions and Travel:
This position requires approximately 80% of work time spent in an office environment (e.g., state offices, home offices); the remaining 20% is spent traveling or working in alternative sites such as schools, educational service units, and other service agencies. There is also approximately twenty days of overnight travel per year.
Requirements / QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: Master's degree in the field of education or related subject area, two years of successful preK12 teaching or school administration experience in an approved or accredited Nebraska school, or equivalent teaching or school administration experience in another state or country, and eligible for/possess a current Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per §79-807.
NOTE: A Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per 92 NAC 21 must be possessed by the time the candidate begins employment at the Nebraska Department of Education and an active certificate maintained while in the Education Specialist position.
Substitution: Bachelor's degree in education or equivalent Master of Arts in Teaching per 92 NAC 21, and four years of teaching or school administration experience in an approved or accredited Nebraska school or equivalent teaching or school administration experience in another state or country, and eligible for/possess a current Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per §79-807.
Preferred Qualifications: Coursework or industry experience in skilled and technical sciences or related areas. Experience with SkillsUSA advising, writing, and aligning standards to local curriculum, and working within CTE-related grants (e.g. Perkins).
