Position Summary: The Safety Specialist plays a crucial role in driving and promoting our Safety program management and initiatives. They ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements for workplace safety standards at our manufacturing site and within our communities.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science or Technical field of study preferred, with a focus on Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Specialized Safety/OSHA certificates are preferred. If not already certified, obtaining educational certifications will be required.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and SharePoint is required.
Key Roles & Responsibilities Standard Duties:
  • Provide ongoing instruction on OSHA-required safety disciplines to ensure employees have essential safety instructions before working in hazardous environments.
    • Collaborate with the Training Department to coordinate annual or recurring safety training requirements.
    • Conduct safety training sessions for all employees as mandated by law and Company guidelines, using various multimedia formats.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee training records.
  • Conduct safety audits throughout the facility to identify and correct unsafe conditions and acts.
    • Monitor employee behavior within assigned areas and recommend remedial safety instructions to reduce workplace injuries and improve regulatory compliance.
  • Implement all aspects of the BorgWarner Global Star Safety Framework.
  • Participate in accident and incident investigations, utilizing photographs, employee interviews, and other relevant sources.
    • Write summaries and recommend corrective actions to prevent additional accidents.
    • Perform follow-up on remediation efforts as needed.
  • Regularly communicate with various site Safety Specialists and leadership to ensure consistent application of safety policies and programs.
  • Review and update Job Safety Analysis documents to identify and mitigate work-related hazards.
    • Prepare department-specific reports and maintain safety-specific documents (e.g., procedures manuals, material safety data sheets).
  • Generate specific periodic and ad-hoc safety reports.
  • Maintain a database of recordable incidents, near-misses, and relevant investigations.
    • Track progress on action items resulting from incident investigations, safety audits, and safety committee meetings.
    • Schedule, monitor, and track action items related to fire, severe weather, and Code Blue drills.
  • Develop, conduct, and evaluate drills for both manufacturing and warehouse settings.
  • Review safety statistics to detect trends and patterns.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Key Competencies
  • Strong background in one or more of the following areas: Electrical Safety, Lockout/Tagout, Shipping Hazardous Materials, and Emergency Response.
  • Previous experience in conducting training is a plus.
