Shift: Day, Evenings, Nights, Weekends
Employment Status: Full-Time (.75 or greater)
Hours per Pay Period: 1.00 = 80 hours (Non-Exempt)
Starting Wage DOE: $34.59 - $51.29/hr

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) will provide timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to the sexual assault victim. The SANE exam may include a medical-forensic exam, prophylaxis for pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, photographic documentation, and referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up, support and participation in legal proceedings.

Essential Job Functions
• Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic's mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.
• Perform a complete medical forensic examination to include completed head to toe medical assessment for trauma, detailed genital/anal examination; Forensic specimen collection and supportive documentation; Photo documentation of bodily and genital/anal injuries with competent documentation. Demonstrates care for the patient, not just for evidence collection purposes.
• Assess patient for mandatory reporting status and report when appropriate.
• Maintain chain of custody and adhere to evidence guidelines.
• Ensures patient/medical record confidentiality (HIPPA).
• Cleans and sanitizes SANE room upon completion of exam.
• Participates in periodic case review to include documentation and photographs.
• Maintains clinical education hours relevant to sexual assault or forensics.
• Takes responsibility for own professional growth and development needs; meets all system/departmental educational requirements.
• Demonstrates collaborative, supportive, and caring behaviors in communication with patient's families, visitors, and the interdisciplinary care team.
• Consideration is given to the appropriateness of care based on the population specific needs of the patient.
• Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

• Collection and analysis of information to develop evidence-based plans of care related to specific interventions and goals.
• Incorporate population specific needs into all aspects of communication and patient care; scope of services provided will encompass age groups ranging from infant through geriatric
• Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbal and written
• Utilize time management concepts and maximize time effectively
• Work effectively with interdisciplinary care team
• Give attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care, resolving patient/resident care problems and dealing with patients and their families while working with frequent interruptions and competing priorities
• Respond calmly and professionally when dealing with difficult or emergency and traumatic situations
• Maintain flexibility to adapt to a variety of workload assignments
• Lift, push and pull 50 pounds unassisted
• Resourcefulness and compassion in dealing with emergency and traumatic situations
• Practices within the scope of RN licensure

Minimum Qualifications
Education
• 2 Year / Associates Degree (ASN) - Associate (or Diploma) RNs hired into this position must commit to completing their Bachelor of Nursing degree within 4 years of their date of hire. Billings Clinic will help support the cost through financial assistance.
• Preferred - 4 Year / Bachelors Degree (BSN)

Experience
• Minimum of two years RN experience
• Must be currently active as a SANE RN or have at least one year of prior SANE RN experience

Certifications and Licenses
• Current Montana state license as a registered nurse, or compact nursing license with ability to obtain a MT RN license within 90 days of hire date
• SANE-A/SANE-P certifications after two years of practice within 2 years of hire
• Healthcare Provider CPR Certification required
• Individual or employment-based malpractice insurance (1,000,000/6,000,000)
• Successful completion of recommended clinical components to minimally include:
• Completed International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) Adult /Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Course (41 hours)
• Completion of IAFN Pediatric/Adolescent Sexual Nurse Examiner (40 hours)
• Speculum training competence /check off
• Shadowing an experienced SANE for 2-3 exams, and then being shadowed by an experienced SANE for 2-3 exams.
• Proficient use of all equipment

Other Requirements
• Forty-eight (48) hours of call a month in 12-hour increments; this may include weekends at times.
• One - 12-hour call shift during a holiday such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year's etc.
• Actively engaged in regularly conducting SANE exams with no lapse of greater than six (6) months
