Description

Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Psychology Instructor at the Walla Walla campus. This is a 176-day annual contract (three quarters) beginning Winter quarter 2025.

WWCC Faculty members are professional educators with the primary responsibility of providing a quality education for all WWCC students. The relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of teacher, mentor, and facilitator of learning.

General Description:

We are seeking a creative, dynamic, and enthusiastic individual who will provide quality psychology instruction. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative individual who will help to grow the Psychology program while working with colleagues in Arts & Sciences, and throughout WWCC.

  • Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum development.
  • Provide clear explanations, assignments and directions for students with a varied degree of abilities.
  • Utilize best practices when implementing technology in the classroom.
  • Assign and submit grades and maintain student records.
  • Participate in assessments of college-wide and discipline-specific outcomes.
  • Administer frequent assessments, both formative and summative.
  • Provide students with a comprehensive syllabus that aligns with the Master Course Outline for each class.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Work in partnership with other faculty and staff and attend regular team meetings.
  • Participate in commencement ceremonies.

  • Advise and mentor students on program options, career plans and graduation requirements.
  • Participate in division, campus and college-wide meetings.
  • Serve on college and/or faculty committees.
  • Participate in community activities and form community and industrial partnerships as related to instructional assignments and interests.
  • Maintain excellence in, and commitment to, professional development activities, which include discipline-specific knowledge and best teaching practices.

  • Ensure students have technological and digital literacy skills needed for success at university level academic institutions or professional-technical work occupations.

  • Required Qualifications
    Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college.
  • Master's degree or higher in Psychology or closely related field
  • Two years of work as an instructor of Psychology or equivalent professional experience

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in Psychology or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the community college level.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Ability to actively promote the program outside of campus to both prospective students and the community.
  • Commitment to serve the mission of the College.
  • Demonstrated ability working with and relating to persons from varied cultural, ethnic, gender, age, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds, and creating a welcoming, inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Pedagogical approach centered on students and informed by culturally responsive teaching/training.
  • Willingness to adapt teaching methodologies to the changing needs of students and the College.
  • Demonstrated skill in using the online learning management systems and technology to deliver high-quality instruction to all students inclusive of all course modalities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and interdisciplinarity.

    Conditions/Terms of Employment

    This is a full-time tenure-track faculty position exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Faculty terms and conditions of employment are negotiated with their exclusive bargaining representative, the Association for Higher Education. A complete copy of the agreement can be found on the WWCC Employment Page.

    Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment and official college transcripts. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. Candidates will be subject to a criminal history background check as a condition for consideration of employment. Information from the background check may not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position. The College is a tobacco-free campus.

    Compensation:

    The College has a negotiated faculty salary schedule. Employee placement on the schedule is determined by education level and experience. Salary is dependent on the number of days of the contract and the candidate's placement on the negotiated faculty salary schedule. Initial placement is generally $68,178 - $77,724 for a standard 176-day contract, dependent on qualifications (additional compensation for doctorate degree). The College has a comprehensive faculty benefit program including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; paid sick leave; and retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). The college also supports faculty professional development. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
