The mission of HCC's Psychology program is to foster a challenging environment that provides a solid knowledge base in psychological science and a broad background in the liberal arts through quality instruction. The successful candidate will exhibit a passion and commitment to teaching, advising, and shared governance.   • Develop innovative methods for teaching a variety of psychology courses, primarily on-campus.
  • Maintains regular office hours.
  • Development and updating of curriculum to meet the ever-changing needs of the field.
  • Review and experiment with pedagogy as well as evaluate alternative teaching strategies including inquiry-oriented teaching, project-based learning, distance learning and Learning Communities.
  • Participates in program and degree advising for students suited to students' career and transfer goals.
  • Attends regularly scheduled Department, Division, and College meetings.
  • Participates in College Governance Committees, and other committees, task forces, sub-committees, and other activities as requested.
  • Assists in curriculum development and assessment of student learning outcomes, and participates in the assessment cycle within the department.
  • Works with the department to build and sustain community and transfer partnerships.
  • Integrates computer technology into coursework, as appropriate.
  • Participates in enrollment and retention efforts, as appropriate.
  • REQUIRED:

  • Master's degree in Psychology;
  • Teaching experience at the college level;
  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge of varied pedagogical strategies;
  • Ability to integrate technology into instruction;
  • Willingness to teach courses in a variety of modalities (e.g., on-campus, online);
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Commitment to and understanding of the community college mission; commitment to teaching a student body diverse in abilities, age, ethnicity, race, gender identity, and sexual orientation;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in inclusive pedagogy.
  • NOTE: A teaching demonstration will be a required part of the interview process.

    PREFERRED:
  • Post-Masters credits or doctoral degree;
  • Experience and interest in teaching introductory level psychology courses;
  • Experience and interest in teaching specialized psychology courses appropriate to the applicant's area of expertise (area open), as well as courses in developmental psychology;
  • Ability and interest in teaching at least one of the core required psychology courses (e.g., Information Literacy, Research Methods in Psychology, Statistics in Psychology);
  • Willingness and qualifications to develop either a multicultural psychology or introduction to neuroscience course;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in community college teaching;
  • Experience teaching individuals from diverse backgrounds.

    Full-time, tenure-track MCCC/MTA position
    Salary: Minimum $54,820-$64,159 (subject to salary increase effective January 1, 2025). Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits.
