The Graduate School supports graduate students in almost every program across the Carolina campus and serves students from admission through graduation. We provide financial support (e.g. interdisciplinary fellowships, tuition support, travel awards, and research supplements), career and professional development (e.g. in pedagogy, leadership, communication, grant writing), diversity and student success programming, academic program support, and advocacy to students, faculty, staff, and graduate programs. The Graduate School also provides individual students with services tailored to meet their needs.

Position Summary:

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Graduate School at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill is seeking a Project Manager to report to its Executive Director for Strategic Initiatives. The Project Manager will ensure the successful execution of strategic initiatives in support of current and future graduate and professional students at UNC. In this capacity, this position will support The Graduate School's strategic plan, the campus-wide Graduate Student Experience Initiative, and various initiatives led by The Graduate School. Under the direction of the Executive Director for Strategic Initiatives, the Project Manager will manage the day-to-day operations for assigned projects, including ensuring effective use of selected project management tools (e.g., Asana, Planner), planning and managing timelines and internal communications, tracking milestones, as well as information gathering and preparing reports as needed to communicate the findings and progress on various initiatives. The Project Manager will serve as a liaison with other units across campus to provide support for various initiatives led by The Graduate School.

Additional responsibilities will include scheduling and running meetings, capturing action items and decisions, communicating with all teams, maintaining project boards and supporting working group activities. This position will also collaborate with various units across campus to evaluate the effectiveness of the strategic initiatives being implemented, as well as perform research to inform new strategic directions. The Project Manager will actively contribute to implementing initiatives that address the comprehensive needs of our graduate and professional student body in collaboration with departments and units across campus.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, detail-oriented team player. The individual must have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and a problem-solving attitude. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to facilitate positive, productive collaborations and strategic partnerships among faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.

Candidates should possess a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail with a high level of self-motivation. The successful candidate will demonstrate critical thinking abilities, discernment, and a proactive approach while maintaining efficiency in completing daily tasks.

Ability to manage multiple projects at various stages required. Strong organization skills required and must have a demonstrated ability to deliver high quality results on time and to manage competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Experience working with faculty, students, and staff at an institution of higher education
Experience with and certification in change management.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
