This position works in our Center for Postsecondary Research. The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) is a trusted and widely used instrument for assessing the quality of undergraduate education providing 4-year colleges and universities with diagnostic, actionable information for evidence-based improvement efforts. NSSE (pronounced Nessie) annually collects information at hundreds of institutions about student participation in programs and activities provided for their learning and personal development. The Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE) complements NSSE and measures instructional staff expectations for student engagement in educational practices that are empirically linked with high levels of learning and development. The Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE) collects data about entering students' prior academic and co-curricular experiences, as well as their expectations for engagement during the coming college year. All projects are housed within the Indiana University School of Education Center for Postsecondary Research.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily operations of the NSSE survey administration.
  • Performs tasks associated with registering institutions.
  • Prepares and monitors institutions participation and communicates with participants.
  • Coordinates and facilitates the efforts of the project services team of graduate students.
  • Collaborates with partners and vendors at IU and with NSSE project leadership to ensure project objectives are achieved.
  • Hires and trains graduate student project service staff.
  • Plans for survey administration with the IU Center for Survey Research and NSSE leadership.
  • Updates and plans the NSSE user interface.
  • Updates survey bulletins to participating institutions.
  • Manages and reviews survey customization selections.
  • Manages consortium contacts.
  • Follows through with clients regarding report delivery and questions.
General Responsibilities
  • Manages medium to large projects, from start to finish, ensuring on time completion within budget.
  • Develops project plan(s) and efficiently analyzes, tracks, forecasts, and reports on project metrics and shortfalls.
  • Coordinates and facilitates efforts of project team(s) consisting of various staff and hourly employees.
  • Communicates ongoing changes in tasks, goals, or performance.
  • Collaborates to ensure that project objectives are achieved within established time frames.
  • Participates in client meetings, vendor/contract decisions, and development of project requirements and specifications.
  • May provide guidance and support to less experienced peers.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information

The anticipated salary range for this position falls between. $55,000 and $65,000.
