Job DescriptionJob SummaryThis position is responsible for providing technical expertise to personnel and operations for Hazardous Classified Locations; for recommending and managing scope expansions; and for assessing and developing local training. This position is the primary resource for review and approval of test procedures, methods and interpretations of applicable certifications standards under various schemes such as NRTL, CE Directive, IEC CB schemes, and similar.
Scope of Work
- Provide local management with technical assessment of engineering skills and performance levels.
- Responsible for assessing training of the technical staff and development of new training programs.
- Independently, conduct on and off-site evaluation of products to determine compliance with applicable standard(s). Provide on-going support and guidance on technical issues, test procedures, and standards interpretations.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
- Research new standards, technologies, and trends in standards. Represent SGS North America Inc. on technical committees, code panels and/or associations.
- Support accreditations activities such as audit follow-up and corrective actions. Investigate technical complaints. Audit and qualify sites for special SGS North America Inc. programs.
- Recommend and prepare capital expenditure requests and manage capital projects.
- Responsible for more complex projects. Provide complex sales support such as giving presentations during client visits.
- Provide local technical expertise and maintain reviewer status in one or more product categories. Proactively develop and communicate test procedures, new test fixtures and report shells for local office
- Investigate technical complaints for the local office and support accreditations efforts by performing technical audits locally.
- Effective time and project management skills to efficiently handle a variety and multiple project requests (quotations, certification projects, etc.) to meet on time delivery and improve turnaround timelines for customer project completion dates.
- Perform other work as required.
QualificationsWho We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, E.E highly preferred
- 8+ years directly related experience.
- Ability to perform complex circuit analysis and testing experience in Intrinsic Safety or similar applications.
- Advanced experience with U.S., Canadian, and other international product safety standards, i.e., ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC standard such as, but not limited to UL 913, IEC 60079 series, UL 121201, CSA C22.2 No. 213.
- Certification Reviewer qualification under ISO 17065 for regulations standard guidelines, in one or more schemes.
- Ability to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases.
- Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently where limited standardization exists.

- Ability to travel 25%
