SUMMARY:
The Program Coordinator for the Student Center for Equity and Inclusion provides oversight and leadership for programs and initiatives that directly impact the Black and African American student community at the University of Richmond. The Program Coordinator will aid in creating high impact and other initiatives focused on skill building for students within the Black and African American community. The Program Coordinator will work with campus partners to strategize opportunities that acclimate Black and African American students to campus life. The Program Coordinator will also serve on the multicultural programs team led by the Associate Director responsible for multicultural programs. The ideal candidate would have prior experience coordinating meaningful programs, initiatives, and resources that meet the needs of Black and African American young adults primarily in a college setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program and Project Development
- Design and implement programs that incorporate culturally affirming practices that support, educate, and empower Black and African American students.
- Develop initiatives that foster a pluralistic learning environment and a sense of belonging for students, with emphasis on African American and Black students.
- Plan multiple means to equip Black and African American students with skills that are designed to enhance resilience, self-awareness, confidence, and transformational leadership.
- Strategize opportunities that acclimate Black and African American students to campus.
- Collaborate with campus partners to develop, stimulate, and implement initiatives that promote awareness, understanding, recognition, and celebration of the Black and African American community.
- Create marketing materials for programs and initiatives through social media and other university communication platforms.
- Partner with other SCEI staff to plan events that promote the Center to the campus community and positively impact the student populations served.
- Assist the Associate Director for Multicultural Programs in the execution of annual programs and/or initiatives that support multicultural student growth and development.
- Serve as the club advisor for the Black Student Alliance and advise other Black and African American student clubs and organizations as needed.
- Coordinate and provide logistical support for student affinity groups, such as the Black Women's Affinity Group.
Administration and Management - Manage goals and objectives for programs and initiatives that impact the Black and African American student communities.
- Monitor the SCEI budget and resource allocations for Black and African American student programs.
- Participate in special projects that align with the mission of the SCEI at the request of the Associate Director for Multicultural Programs.
Student Advising and Mentoring - Connect students to resources that support the Black and African American student experience.
- Mentor Black and African American students in ways that promote personal development, social ease, and general satisfaction relative to their campus quality of life experiences.
Evaluation and Assessment - Generate evaluation reports and other information related to project(s) or program(s) for the Black and African American student communities.
- Develop strategies to monitor, assess, and enhance the effectiveness of existing and new initiatives for their designated population(s).
Campus-Wide Committee and Outreach Efforts - Serve on institutional committees to develop, promote, and/or create University policies, practices, or regulations with permission from the Associate Director for Multicultural Programs.
- Serve as chair of the Black History Month committee providing leadership in the creation of events to celebrate the month, including the annual Black Excellence Gala.
- Occasional attendance at campus community programs and events outside of the SCEI that center the Black and African American experience.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Strong organizational skills.
- Adept in establishing mentorship relations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven programming coordination specifically centering Black/African American students.
- Advanced computer and data management skills, utilizing programs such as Microsoft Office Applications, Qualtrics, Canva, Student Engagement Software, and Social Media Applications.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree preferred, with a minimum of 1-2 years of work experience in Higher Education; preferred educational background in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Africana Studies, or related background. Experience providing support for underrepresented students and a deep awareness in issues that specifically impact traditional college-age Black and African American students globally. Also have basic knowledge and understanding of LGBTQ+, first-generation, multicultural, and limited-income student populations and the social justice issues that affect them.
WORK HOURS: - Full-time, exempt position
- Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week; occasional nights and weekends
SALARY STRUCTURE: Pay Grade 5 (Hiring Range $41,018.00 to $54,350.00 annually)
