The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek Thoracic Oncologist to join the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Position Overview

Physician specializing in Thoracic Oncology to serve as a member of the Division of Medical Oncology, within the Department of Internal Medicine; directs and provides direct and indirect patient care services in both inpatient and outpatient settings; conducts ambulatory clinics; interviews, obtains and reviews medical history of patients; performs physical examinations to assess medical or surgical needs; performs relevant oncology procedures; orders special procedures, diagnostic testing, and other ancillary services; responds to consultation requests; determines, prescribes and implements treatment plans and/or medications required; documents all services and instructions provided in medical record; educates patients and promotes wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials, resources and services to patient and their families; directs and participates in quality assessment and improvement activities; serves as preceptor and provides bedside training of residents, fellows, medical students, undergraduate & graduate students, nursing staff, and other allied medical professionals in the specialty of oncology; ensures continuing medical education requirements are met; participates in department, college, medical center and university committees and other service activities.

Department/Division Overview
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute expanded in December 2014 to become the 3rd largest cancer hospital in the U.S. The extraordinary success of this new 398-bed state-of-the-art hospital has resulted in remarkable clinical growth and has created several opportunities for medical oncologists across the spectrum of solid tumor subspecialties. The Ohio State University is currently seeking oncology physicians at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor rank for a variety of roles in the areas of basic and translational research, education, and inpatient and outpatient care. High priority searches at this time are those who desire to focus their research and patient care in Thoracic Oncology.

Duties and Responsibilities
5%: Ensures continuing medical education requirements are met; participates in department, college, medical center and university committees and other service activities.

5%: Serves as preceptor and provides bedside training of residents, fellows, medical students, undergraduate & graduate students, nursing staff, and other allied medical professionals in the specialty of oncology.

5%: Directs and participates in quality assessment and improvement activities.

85%: Directs and provides direct and indirect patient care services in both inpatient and outpatient settings; conducts ambulatory clinics; interviews, obtains and reviews medical history of patients; performs physical examinations to assess medical or surgical needs; performs relevant oncology procedures; orders special procedures, diagnostic testing, and other ancillary services; responds to consultation requests; determines, prescribes and implements treatment plans and/or medications required; documents all services and instructions provided in medical record; educates patients and promotes wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials, resources and services to patient and their families; responds and maintains open communication with referring primary care physicians.

Requirements
Required Qualifications: Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Completion of accredited Oncology/Hematology Fellowship. Candidates must be Board Certified in Internal Medicine and board eligible or certified in Medical Oncology, as well as able to meet medical licensure requirements in Ohio. Active certification from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) required.

Faculty Defined
Clinical faculty (regardless of rank)
- Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a doctor of medicine (MD), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research.

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.

Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
