Nursing Coop: Emergency Department Acute Psychiatry Services
The start date for this position is January 6, 2025 and the end date is June 27, 2025. This nursing cooperative with MGH is exclusive to Northeastern University Nursing School Program students.
Why This Role Is Important?
Under the direction of a registered nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate (PCA) assists the multi-disciplinary health care team in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment.
The Acute Psychiatry Service (APS), located within the Emergency Department at Massachusetts General Hospital, provides behavioral health care to pediatric and adult patients. Our main objective when providing consultations is to stabilize the individual and then refer him or her for appropriate follow-up treatment, either within Mass General or elsewhere. APS is equipped to handle psychiatric emergencies around the clock, and we typically see more than 6,000 patients a year.
The APS is staffed by attending psychiatrists with expertise that includes addiction treatment, child psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine. Our multidisciplinary team also includes other professionals who help assess and determine the best treatment plan for each patient.
