Position Summary:

Prairie State College seeks an experienced part-time hourly instructor to provide CDL License Class B Permit Training. Successful candidates will hold a Class A or B CDL License. Must be able to work independently, show good judgment, and have the desire to engage a diverse student population in a classroom setting. Successful candidates will have a flexible schedule for teaching assignments. Instruction topics include but are not limited to:

• General Industry-related best practices
• Air Brakes
• Passenger Endorsement

Reporting Relationship:

Direct reporting relationship to the Manager, Workforce and Community Partnerships - Workforce Trades. Supports the Executive Director, Workforce Development and Community Education, and team with carrying out the mission of the college and department.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Plan for instructional activities supporting curriculum.
2. Organize concepts to be taught in a logical and understandable manner covering all objectives outlined in the training program.
3. Use appropriate assessment tools to ensure learning.
4. Submit and maintain accurate records of attendance and grades.
5. Effective communication with students to help them achieve their educational goals.
6. Conducting classes with little or no direct supervision.
7. Providing student updates when requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Class A or B CDL License.
2. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
3. Instructional/Training experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience driving a commercial bus (+15 passengers).
2. Experience teaching, especially at the community college level.
3. Experience working with culturally and intellectually diverse group.
4. Ability to create diverse teaching methods.

Salary:

Minimum starting $30/hr.
