General Summary:

The Nurse Supervisor - NICU is a designated clinical leader for a patient care area who works under the supervision of and in collaboration with the Department Director to plan and coordinate care at the service/department level. This position is responsible and accountable for:

  • Cost effective decision-making regarding operations including utilization and application of resources. (i.e., human resources, patient care environment, supplies, etc.)
  • Directing and supervising professional and non-professional staff
  • Determining staff assignment and scheduling
  • Assuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Participating in the development of patient care standards and delivery of care processes.
  • Facilitating and participating in staff development, including orientation and training.
  • Participating in performance evaluation and management including verbal coaching and counseling.
  • Participating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the quality improvement and safety plan.
  • Maintaining a clinical environment that demonstrates service excellence.
  • Functioning as a professional role model and resource person.
The authority to exercise these responsibilities often requires the use of independent judgement. The NIC supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Health.

Minimum licensure/certification required (if applicable):

Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.

BLS certified, additional Life Support training as applicable to unit requirements.

Department specific specialty certification required within six months of start of position.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

Baccalaureate and/or Master's degree in nursing required. Master's degree preferred.

Minimum of 3 years of specialty specific experience in an acute care setting.

Advanced computer skills to include data entry and retrieval, including Microsoft specialty products.

Reads, writes, speaks and comprehends English language.

Ability to effectively communicate complex and comprehensive information thoroughly and succinctly.

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements: Able to lift patients and patient care equipment up to 35 pounds. Must be able to push, pull and move patients, and patient care equipment. Must be able to bend body downward at waist and be able to kneel. Must be able to utilize computers for periods of time throughout shift.

Visual Acuity: Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing computer terminals; extensive reading; visual inspection, involving small defects, small parts and operation of machines; using measurement devices; assembly at distances close to eyes.

Auditory Acuity: Must have sufficient acuity to identify auditory alarms in noisy environments.

Environmental Conditions: Worker subject to hazards associated with hospital environment.

Reporting Relationship:

Reports to the Department Director

Pay rate: $39.04 - $61.00

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
