Job Description Summary:
The Transaction Engineering (TE) team is at the heart of what PayPal does and handles most payment transactions that involve PayPal. Its mission is to deliver a great payment experience while ensuring high availability and extreme reliability. Consequently, it is a high stakes and high-energy environment employing innovative ideas and cutting edge technologies. As a manager, you will be responsible for working on applications and services that handle all types of PayPal transactions. You will work in a fast-paced environment where continuous innovation and experimentation are a given.

Job Description:

Primary Job Responsibilities

Your day to day-

Own Outcomes: Lead the development and rollout of the product and technical roadmap for the team, ensuring concrete outcomes.

Team Development:

Build, nurture, and grow the engineering team, delivering relevant features and capabilities while supporting their career growth at PayPal.

Mentorship and Feedback: Actively engage in the growth of team members by providing regular, constructive feedback and coaching. Oversee performance management, hiring, and talent development processes.

Timely Delivery: Ensure the timely delivery of engineering initiatives to create desired value.

Collaborative Development: Work closely with product owners, solution architects, user experience designers, engineering counterparts across the company, and the team to deliver solutions for customers. Collaborate with integration teams and merchant partners to deliver best-in-class payment experiences on web, iOS, and Android platforms.

Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with various stakeholders to develop products that meet high standards of security, scalability, performance, and reliability.

Bridge Between Teams: Act as a liaison between product and technology teams, aligning business needs with technological solutions.

Hands-On Leadership: Provide hands-on leadership, assisting the team with design and architectural decisions, conducting design and code reviews, and establishing strong quality and delivery pipelines.

Infrastructure Collaboration: Work with core platform and infrastructure teams to meet the infrastructure needs for building Unified Merchant Platform solutions.

Enable Success: Foster a culture of diversity, inclusion, collaboration, and customer-centricity within the team.

Business Understanding: Gain a deep understanding of the payments business and how technology decisions impact it.

Job Requirements

2+ years of people management (plus if team is geographically located)
7+ years of experience in software engineering, architecture, and/or product development.
Expert in Distributed systems, service architectures preferably with JVM based systems
Competent in design/implementation for reliability, availability, scalability and performance
