Legal Counsel
Location:Fort Mill, SC
Reports to:VP, Legal Affairs - Pulp & Tissue
Overview: Provide legal services and advise the Pulp & Tissue Business Unit (Unit) personnel from various departments and facilities in relation to the Unit's activities and operations in the United States, ensuring that the Unit's, and the Paper Excellence Group's, objectives and interests are protected and furthered, as well as carried out in a manner that is in conformity with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.
Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Provide legal services and support related to procurement/sales matters, including the drafting, negotiation and revising of sales/supply agreements.
- Manage commercial litigation matters in the United States for the Unit.
- Work on general commercial and bankruptcy matters related to the Unit.
- Provide legal support on projects of group-wide importance (such as restructurings, significant mill conversion/upgrade projects and M&A).
- Provide legal advice related to compliance and policy matters for the Unit.
- Manage trademarks for both the Unit and group-wide, depending on knowledge.
- Litigation management, including managing external counsel.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited law school and admitted to a state bar
- 5-10 years of experience in the related areas.
- Hybrid work environment with a physical presence based out of the Fort Mill, SC office.
- Must be comfortable working autonomously as majority of the Unit's attorneys are based in Canada.
- Quarterly travel to Montreal will be required for in-person meetings with the Unit's Canadian-based attorneys.
- Has relevant junior associate experience with a law firm.
- Knowledge of trademarks/IP is a plus.
- Prior in-house experience in or related to the pulp and paper industry is a plus.
