Hays is supporting a leading Engineering & Construction firm, looking to add Senior & Lead Engineering talent to their Renewables & Power divisions.

Role Overview:As a Senior/Lead Substation Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and execution of high-voltage electrical substations. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring the successful integration of renewable energy sources (such as solar, wind, and battery storage) into our grid infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and engineering efforts for substations, including greenfield and brownfield projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including civil, electrical, and control engineers) to develop comprehensive substation designs.
• Create detailed project specifications, design drawings, and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
• Evaluate technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and constructability of design packages.
• Develop single-line diagrams, layout drawings, raceway systems, grounding systems, and station service.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
• Interface with clients, subcontractors, and equipment factories.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or actively working towards it.
• Minimum 7-10 years of experience in substation design, ideally with renewable energy integration.
• Proficiency in protection and control design (protective relays) and/or physical design.
• Strong knowledge of industry standards (IEEE, NESC, etc.).
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
