The Infrastructure Engineering and DevOps team currently works in a hybrid environment, which this position will be eligible for upon successful completion of onboarding.
This is a hybrid eligible position.
Overview:As a DevOps Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining our service-focused platform-based IT infrastructure. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop and utilize well-designed APIs, streamline CI/CD pipelines, and manage containerized applications, with a focus on integrating services like Google Workspace, Office 365, in a cloud-centric environment. Our team prioritizes reliability, scalability, security, and performance-believing that great services stem from well-designed architectures and consistency comes from well-structured frameworks and platforms.
Key Responsibilities:

      API Design & Implementation: Develop, document, and manage well-designed, service-focused APIs. We currently prefer Python-based APIs utilizing FastAPI, running in a Kubernetes-based environment.
      API-Based Service Integration & Automation: Integrate cloud-based services, including Google Workspace, Office 365, and other third-party APIs, while automating workflows.
      Scripting & Infrastructure Automation: Write and maintain scripts and tools (mostly Python & Bash based scripting) to streamline processes and ensure operational efficiency. Automate infrastructure provisioning and management using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar technologies.
      CI/CD Pipeline Optimization: Maintain and optimize CI/CD pipelines for automated, reliable, and efficient deployments.
      Cross-team Collaboration: Work closely with other teams to integrate infrastructure with application services, supporting cross-team projects, and the entire service development lifecycle.
      Cloud Infrastructure Management & Automation: Manage, automate and scale cloud services with a focus on security, performance, and reliability. Design, implement, and manage Kubernetes clusters, ensuring seamless orchestration of containerized applications.
      System Monitoring & Incident Response: Monitor system performance, ensure high availability, and respond promptly to incidents or outages.
      Infrastructure Upgrades & Planning: Participate in the planning and execution of infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning such as Kubernetes cluster upgrades, server and container patching and upgrades, etc.
      Security Best Practices: Implement security best practices across the infrastructure, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
Required Qualifications:
      Proficiency in Python: This is the number one skill required to be successful in this position. Strong experience in Python, ideally 3-5 years, with a focus on building well-structured and well-documented APIs and API-based service integrations.
      DevOps Expertise: Minimum of 2 years, Ideally 3-5 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or software engineer with operational responsibilities providing the knowledge and understanding on best practices of service operations, focusing on infrastructure, automation, and CI/CD.
      Growth and Automation-Focused Mindset: You are curious and appreciate the iterative nature of engineering and lean toward automation to enhance both existing processes and your own work.
      Scalability & Performance: A mindset geared toward scalability, reliability, and performance in infrastructure management.
      Problem-solving & Collaboration: Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with strong communication skills to collaborate across teams.

Nice-to-Have Skills:These are nice-to-have skills that would enhance your candidacy and add value to our team. These are technologies that our team is involved in.
      Other Programming & Scripting skills: Experience and scripting skills in Bash or similar scripting languages such as Zsh besides Python, or programming skills/experiences in node.js/javascript are highly preferred.
      Microservices: Experience with microservices architecture utilizing containers.
      Containers & Kubernetes: Hands-on experience managing Kubernetes clusters, Docker, and container orchestration environments.
      Cloud Infrastructure: Hands-on experience in one of the major cloud provider environments, such as GCP, AWS, or Azure
      Infrastructure As Code (IaC): Experience with tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
      Cloud SQL: Familiarity and past experience with cloud-based database management (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.).
      Service Monitoring & Operations: Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or Splunk.
      Cloud Certifications: Cloud platform or DevOps certifications (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.).
      CI/CD Automation Tools: Past experience and familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI, Github Actions, CircleCI, Jenkins or similar are desired.
      Networking & Security: Good understanding of networking, security, and monitoring tools..
The expected pay range for this position is $148,162 - $168,602 per annum.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.At Stanford University, base pay represents only one aspect of the comprehensive rewards package.
