Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our Engineering Services team and has an opportunity for an Industrial or Management Engineer. This position will works directly with functional and operational areas to advance change and develop process improvement recommendations to leadership. The engineer completes detailed process analysis and is accountable for determining productivity and cost-effective improvements. The engineer conducts data collection, analysis, information reporting, tactical and strategic planning, and forecasting.

The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. What you'll do
  • Provides engineering consulting to include in-house consultation on process improvement, work measurement, strategic planning, lean six sigma, automation, and special projects.
  • Leads and implements corporate and strategic initiatives while utilizing project management tools for timely completion of all projects.
  • Develops and recommends solutions to maximize corporate-wide productivity and efficiency through work measurement, methods improvement, procedure analysis, and workflow analysis.
  • Creates systems and reports to reduce manual effort, increase user productivity and improve process efficiency.
  • Performs cost analysis to determine cost estimations tied to resources, equipment, and processes.
  • Plays a key role in developing corporate robotic process automation (RPA) solutions.
  • Contributes to improved productivity and quality through participation in the development of appropriate training programs, incentive programs, quality programs and operational and administrative procedures.
  • Develops and recommends short-range and long-range work performance management goals and objectives and when appropriate develops plans to support achievement of these goals and objectives.
  • Assists leadership in organizational re-design of goals and objectives that help to ensure the various divisions/departments are meeting BCBSKS' overall plan.
  • Exercises personnel management functions over assigned engineering staff and any assigned interns.
  • Assists management as requested with corporate-wide initiatives.

What you need

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. A master's degree in engineering, business, finance, or healthcare field is preferred. * The Management Engineer requires evidence of continued enhancement of skills through training and education.
  • Industrial Engineer requires 3 months practical experience in business management, production management, industrial engineering, scheduling systems, or business operational research and analysis.
  • Management Engineer requires 3 years practical experience in business management, production management, industrial engineering, scheduling systems, or business operational research and analysis.
  • Management Engineer requires supervisory and management experience related to planning, organizing, directing and controlling activities.
  • Ability to apply industrial engineering skills and experience over a wide scope of the organization's operations and functions and handles extremely complex projects, which may cross numerous organizational boundaries.
  • Must participate on project teams undertaking critical strategic projects, team activities include leading, planning, organizing, and implementing.
  • Ability to utilize various industrial engineering skills to improve quality, efficiency and effectiveness within the company and its subsidiaries. These skills include, but are not limited to methods design/analysis, job design/analysis, performance management, workflow documentation, work measurement, work simplification, ergonomics/human factors, quality assurance, planning and control, physical facility analysis, and safety.
  • Must complete high level mathematical and data analysis utilizing statistics, calculus, and engineering economic analysis.
  • Ability to create process documentation and utilize business intelligence and data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) converting data from various data sources into interactive dashboards and analysis reports.
  • Personal computer experience should include Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, Visio, and Project) and specialized statistical software (SAS, Minitab, or equivalent). Working knowledge of LAN environment and mainframe computer systems.
  • Programming skills (such as Visual Basic or SQL) and the ability to design and/or create specialized programs with various applications.
  • Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present technical details to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work through ambiguous situations.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently, and able to take initiative without being directed.
  • Requires a working knowledge of business operations, work methods, production functions, processes, and workflow.
  • Must be able to work effectively at a desk for extended periods of time and be able to type extensively or use accessible alternatives for digital communication.
  • Must be able to travel to, at a minimum, quarterly in-person meetings with the department.

Bonus if you have

  • Experience with healthcare payor business processes (such as enrollment/renewals, customer service, claims, finance, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience with RPA and automating processes using various tools and techniques (e.g., UiPath) preferred.
