Job Duties:

- Under limited supervision - responsible for performing the duties of a lead inspector on highway construction projects.
- Plan, coordinate, and assign duties related to construction inspection and survey work on assigned construction project
- Train and provide leadership for CT-I and CT-II level Construction Technicians
- Coordinate engineering activities with contractors and or utility companies
- Attends, plans, and assists in pre-construction meetings.
- Performs and oversees work involved in the quality testing, selection, and investigation of materials involved in the construction of highway projects
- Performs routine administrative work in the maintenance of records and reports.
- Maintain accurate measurement and documentation of project pay items.
- Fulfill the duties of and perform in the duties of Project Manager in the absence of their supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience in performing activities pertinent to construction work such as surveying, materials testing, or field inspections. OR Coursework or training in construction surveying, materials testing, or inspection practices, and in using associated instruments and equipment. Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:Experience with AASHTOWare Project. Possess Materials Testing Certifications, ACI Certification, ATSSA Traffic Control Training, and a degree in Construction Management. Familiar with NDOT procedures and practices. Experience in surveying, road construction, materials testing, record keeping, trigonometry, and geometry. Experience in the operation of heavy equipment or snow removal equipment. Computer experience including word processing, spreadsheets, SiteManager, GEOPAK and MicroStation software.

Other:Must possess or be able to obtain a Class A or B CDL within 90 days of hire through our in-house CDL training program. Costs to obtain the permit will be paid for by the department. This position may require overnight travel. Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Knowledge of: civil engineering principles and practices for all phases of highway construction.

Skill in: calculating mathematical computations involving trigonometry and geometry; applying complex construction inspection, surveying, and materials testing techniques; using personal computers/laptops and associated applications software including drafting, spreadsheet, and word processing software; using technical engineering equipment and instruments used during assigned projects.

Ability to: interact with coworkers, contractors, consultants, and the public to maintain cooperative work relationships; prepare technical reports and maintain detailed records; maintain surveying, testing, and inspection instruments and equipment; lift equipment and samples weighing up to 100 pounds; communicate with others in person, and by telephone, radio, and email; interpret and apply engineering plans and specifications; plan, schedule, and lead the work of coworkers during assigned projects; apply construction procedures in agency construction manuals and directives.

Ability to work and communicate with a team. Ability to work with minimal supervision, be self-motivated, and hold high integrity. Trainable. Ability and willingness to learn and accept challenges by learning and adjusting to new technology and processes. Quality/results-oriented sense of urgency in the performance of duties. Ability to work safely and demonstrate safe and reliable practices and behaviors. Ability to interact in a positive manner and treat co-workers and supervisors with dignity and respect, work to resolve conflicts, and make good decisions using sound judgment, processes, and purpose.

Must be able to report to work outside scheduled work hours for snow and other highway emergencies within 40 minutes under normal driving conditions.
