Job Summary
Support the implementation of the University of Illinois Extension Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Education Program (SNAP-Ed) as directed by the County Director. Responsible for providing program support for conducting needs assessments, coordinating and maintaining community collaborations for program implementation and assisting in the delivery of nutrition messaging campaigns and programs in the SNAP-Ed program.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assessment & Planning
    • Under the direction of academic staff, conduct assessments at organizations and partner sites, and implement appropriate intervention strategies for facilitating environmental and systems change as outlined in the SNAP-Ed plan.
    • As directed, build and maintain partnerships with community organizations to achieve objectives of the program.
    • Work as part of the unit team to identify SNAP Ed eligible audiences and target community areas to be addressed through the program.
  • Evaluation & Reporting
    • Conduct evaluation of program activities and compile required reports to demonstrate program impact.
    • Assist with compiling the necessary records/documents to summarize SNAP-Ed impact within unit SNAP-Ed networks and target areas.
    • Complete required reports, including SNAP-Ed activity reports, contact reports, attendance sheets, program evaluations/impact, travel, and other required reporting. Enter reports into online electronic data base as directed.
  • Marketing & Recruiting
    • In conjunction with unit SNAP-Ed staff, implement marketing plans for recruiting and promoting the SNAP-Ed program according to the unit SNAP Ed action plan.
    • Deliver nutrition education messaging campaigns as outlined in the SNAP-Ed plan.
  • Education & Program Delivery
    • As part of PSE interventions, disseminate educational information to eligible populations as outlined in the SNAP-Ed program plan.
    • In conjunction with unit SNAP-Ed staff, collaborate on multi-level programming that meets objectives laid out in unit program action plan.
  • Other
    • Comply with all University of Illinois Extension and USDA policies and procedures in programs and employment.
    • Perform other duties that contribute to the mission of University of Illinois Extension programming as assigned.
    • Comply with all University of Illinois Extension Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity policies and guidelines in all aspects of Extension work; assist Unit staff with data collection for Affirmative Action, Gender, and Targeted reports.
    • Local, regional, and statewide travel required.
Additional Physical Demands
To perform the functions of this position, the employee will be required to perform work both within an office and outside in the communities that are served and must have the capability to travel from one location to the other in a timely fashion. Employee is responsible for securing personal transportation. A valid driver's license is preferred. Some work will be required during evenings and/or weekends. When working, the employee may be exposed to a variety of environmental factors to include, but not limited to, hot or cold weather, exposure to noise and allergens, and uneven ground. In performing the functions of this position, the employee may be subjected to various mental and physical demands as well to include, but not limited to, independently traveling to and performing work at different locations, ability to move, transfer and/or transport items that may occasionally weigh up to forty (40) pounds and frequently weigh up to twenty (20) pounds, and twisting, pushing and pulling movements. Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or GED
Any one or any combination that equals four (4) years/ 48 months of responsible volunteer or professional work experience in coordinating educational and/or community programs or activities
Volunteer/work experience coordinating educational and/or community programs or activities
College coursework in any field of study
60 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
90 semester hours equals three (3) years (36 months)
120 semester hours or more equals four (4) years (48 months)

Specialty Factors

Demonstrated experience and/or coursework in community nutrition, community health, and/or public health.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Skills in collaborating with diverse audiences (ethnicity, socioeconomic).
  • Ability to work effectively with others individually and in groups.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to independently organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to learn marketing/promotion techniques for program activities.
  • Ability to learn educational content that supports job duties.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate with others in a team environment.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 0929 - Extension Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible. Salary is $43,000.
