Job Description Summary
Provides program oversight and strategic direction for environmental management at a large multi-line manufacturing facility. Reports directly to the Plant Manager and works with plant leadership to drive environmental compliance and lead sustainability initiatives of reducing site waste, water, greenhouse gases, and energy while protecting the environment. Oversee and supervise junior level environmental leaders and technicians and/or operators. Participate in development of corporate environmental management system program and roll out implementation plans to establish an effective environmental management program at facility.
Job Description
- Provide coaching, guidance, and training to plant staff to build capabilities and ensure effective execution of EHS initiatives and standards.
- Ensure all facility staff receive appropriate environmental training.
- Serve as EHS Pillar Leader (or Co-Leader) to align and drive site's Compelling Business Need (CBN). Mentor pillar team members for successful engagement and ownership of integrating EHS pillar activities (such as "water walks") into daily plant activities to achieve an interdependent culture that protects people and the environment.
- Track and manage submittals of Sustainable Development information (data, goals, award applications, etc.).
- Participate in environmental audit process at the site and other facilities.
- Manage facility's environmental program ensuring requirements are timely met and tracking is up to date. Owns accuracy of environmental KPIs, including review of environmental data/info to identify trends & potential areas of risk.
- Develop risk register for site and communicate potential risks to facility operations leadership and corporate environmental leadership.
- Lead environmental incident management efforts to ensure timely reporting, accurate root cause analysis (TapRoot), and effective CAPAs are developed, tracked to completion and shared to other sites if applicable.
- Act as a liaison for the Company to regulatory agencies when needed (e.g., inspections, audits, committees, meetings, etc.).
- Provides overall direction for environmental performance consistent with corporate policies & standards
- Participate in early management design and review process, management of change, and whenever new substances, processes, or procedures are introduced that may represent a new or previously unrecognized hazard to reduce risk potential and ensure compliance.
- Ensure plant capital and R&M projects are supported from an environmental perspective - identify potential environmental and sustainability impacts relative to project work.
- Lead the facilitation of local, state and federal regulations including but not limited to permit and compliance monitoring and reporting for Air, Industrial Wastewater, PSM, TRI reporting, Stormwater Management, SPCC, Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS), Greenhouse Gas emissions (GHG), etc.
- Demonstrate servant leadership principles in all aspects of the role and encourage a culture of collaboration between all departments and team members
- Work closely with Plant leadership to align strategic vision and prioritize workstreams to ensure continuity in directives between all departments, fostering a One Operations Mindset.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Sciences (Engineering, Biology or Chemistry) required
- Masters in Engineering or Science preferred
- 6 - 12 years progressive experience in the environmental/engineering field
- Expert knowledge of all environmental regulations and their impact on the food industry
- Experience with developing engineering scope for new equipment to fulfill compliance needs
- Expert knowledge of operational practices for environmental control systems on water supply, wastewater, air pollution and solid waste.
- Leadership skills to work as a peer and advisor to other departments
- Excellent communication, presentation, and computer application skills

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range posted based on various factors, including, but not limited to, job duties, experience and expertise. A candidate's work location could also impact the actual compensation being outside of the range to reflect local cost of labor. A reasonable annual estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $98,770.00 - $148,160.00
