Plant Engineer I

100% onsite position in Austin Plant.

FLSA Status - Exempt

Position Summary

Provide technical assistance for the assigned business unit to enhance the efficiency, quality, compliance, customer service, and safety of Austin pharmaceutical manufacturing operations. Evaluate existing processes and equipment, suggest and evaluate improvement alternatives, and assists with implementation of process improvements. Work closely with maintenance. Provide technical support to project management to secure funding, help plan and execute projects. Provide technical support to Validation. Works on projects with more experienced engineers and managers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Learn and develop thorough understanding of assigned processes. Assists with and develops skills to lead troubleshooting of issues arising in existing processes.

• Identify and evaluate opportunities for process improvement by analyzing process performance data, including downtime, efficiency, scrap rates, etc. in order to identify opportunities for improvements.

• References existing work to complete similar projects. Improves on previous work.

• Supports project scope, design, FAT, SAT, start-up, commissioning, and supports validation for new equipment. Participates in large project teams.

• Provides input to the product teams regarding the development of new designs, methods or processes.

• Works with experienced engineers as a team member on more complex projects. Regular assignments are completed with minimum supervision.

• Assists in training new employees on use of equipment, system and equipment documentation, and department procedures.

• Delivers communications tailored to the needs of the receiver (managers, peers, customers) with appropriate frequency to maximize its utility and promote cross-functional collaboration. Establish effective working relationships with Production, Quality and Maintenance employees in assigned areas.

• Work on special projects as they arise.

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

• Has engineering foundation.

• Has a basic understanding engineering discipline.

• Expected to spend majority of time learning and best practices.

• Willingness to learn and understand the big picture.

• Ability to complete tasks with minimum supervision.

• Requires the ability to provide input and recommendations that impact the completion of project goals.

Education and Experience

•Bachelor's degree is required, any engineering field. Preferred disciplines are: Mechanical, Chemical, or Biomedical engineering.

• 0-2 years of experience. Prefer some experience in manufacturing, utilities engineering or maintenance and / or experience as process engineer implementing improvements.

Minimum Qualifications: • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Travel Requirements: •Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• This is largely a sedentary role.

• This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.

• Some work is performed in a clean room environment.

• Must be able to occasionally move and lift objects of up to 25 lbs.
