The Electrical Engineer I is an entry-level role within Fortna's Electrical Engineering team, responsible for the design and documentation of electrical controls of Fortna's Material Handling Systems (MHS). The ideal candidate has an education or professional background in Electrical Engineering/design and is experienced in and/or capable of designing control panels typical for use in motor control/automation applications. These design tasks shall be aligned with Fortna's design standards and shall use standard design tools to provide high quality electrical designs in support of Clients' MHS needs.
This position offers career development opportunity via exposure to the Fortna Integrated Design Methodology and development of critical distribution solution skill sets. Key skill sets developed through this role include application of Fortna standard design tools, engineering work stream dependencies, and exposure to complex distribution and material handling solutions. This role also includes interaction with multiple engineering work streams including Project Engineering, Automation Engineering, and Software Controls Engineering.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Supporting projects through the detail design and implementation phase. This includes support of electrical device layout, control panel fabrication, electrical installation, and As Built deliverable packages. Limited development of these deliverables is also required as the Associate builds experience and knowledge within Fortna and our projects
- Attending project meetings as required by project cadence
- Updating project team on the current status of project
- Attending project update meetings
- Ensuring interdepartmental deliverables are provided on time
- Ensuring Quality of deliverables, including use of Drawing Quality Control (DQC) process
- Supporting electrical equipment prototype efforts
- Attending Client meetings as required
- Supporting development of lessons learned document
- Conducting site visits to assist with installation and commissioning support activities
- Supporting generation and enhancement of department standard documentation and procedures to improve the quality and efficiency of the Engineering Group
- Constantly working to expand knowledge of industry best practices and latest technology
- Utilizing AutoCAD and AutoCAD-E for electrical drawings
- Continuously working to solve Client needs
- Proactively seeking work to maintain project utilization
- Using current design practices for material handling systems
- Adhering to all Fortna and department standards
- Maintaining good design notes
- Attending company training as required
- Being reliable; providing timely responses and consistent follow-up
Required Qualifications:
- 4-year engineering degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar engineering program) from an accredited college
- Ability to work effectively on a team and support high levels of performance
- Good collaboration and communication skills (written and verbal communication)
- Experience working with MS Project and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or E-Plan for electrical design
- Flexible and approachable
- Ability to self-motivate
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally in support of our projects
- Ability to perform essential functions of the job
Desired Qualifications:
- Material Handling System electrical design knowledge
- Conveyor control process experience (photoeyes, solenoids, variable frequency drive, line scanner, print and apply application)
- UL, NEC, NFPA, OSHA design requirements
- 480VAC motor control panel design experience
- Knowledge of Profinet or Ethernet IP network design and requirements
The base salary range for this role is $64,200 to $96,300. This base salary range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position. Actual base salary offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.
