The Department of Educational Studies at the University of Alabama invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Counselor Education (Tenure Track/Tenured), with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Detailed Position Information
The Department of Educational Studies at the University of Alabama invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Counselor Education (Tenure Track/Tenured), with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. This role involves teaching, research, service, and program support within a Counselor Education program that offers master's degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, and Rehabilitation Counseling; a doctoral degree (PhD) in Counselor Education & Supervision; and an educational specialist (EdS) degree in School Counseling.

All master's and doctoral programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), with the current accreditation cycle extending through October 31, 2028.

The Department of Educational Studies, in conjunction with the College of Education, is deeply committed to maintaining a welcoming culture that fosters opportunity, connection, and success for all faculty, students, and staff.

Responsibilities:

· Teach graduate courses in CACREP core areas, specialized practice areas in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, doctoral-level courses in Counselor Education & Supervision, as well as practicum and internship courses. The course load is 2 courses per fall and spring semester.

· Integrate CACREP standards into all courses.

· Engage in research and scholarly activities aligned with the College tenure/merit criteria expected for the assigned rank.

· Contribute to service roles within the program, department, and college, consistent with the College tenure/merit criteria for the assigned rank.

· Provide academic advisement for master's and doctoral students in the Counselor Education program.

· Assist in maintaining CACREP compliance, including program evaluation and student assessment.

Start Date: August 16, 2025

Minimum Qualifications
· Earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program by August 15th, 2025, or employed as a full-time faculty member in a Counselor Education program for at least one full academic year before July 1, 2013.

· A record of, or the potential for, research and publication in reputable scholarly journals.

· Evidence of a research program that can be fundable through grants and contracts.

· Experience with graduate-level teaching in a Counselor Education program.

· Membership and involvement in professional organizations such as ACA, AMHCA, or ACES.

· Other evidence of counseling professional identity as demonstrated by activities such as publications in counseling journals, attendance at counseling conferences, professional advocacy for counseling and counselors, etc.

· Licensed or licensure-eligible in the state of Alabama as a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Preferred Qualifications
· Demonstrated evidence of commitment to providing opportunities, connections and success for all students and clients. · Evidence of teaching effectiveness in Counselor Education. · Clinical experience working with different populations (e.g., children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families). · Experience in supervising and/or advising graduate-level students. · Familiarity with CACREP accreditation processes. · Eligible to serve as Faculty Advisor for Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society. · Potential for securing external research funding. · Experience integrating technology into counseling and/or Counselor Education.
