Rad Oncology Dosimetrist Cert, FT Days (Hybrid)Hours: FT Days - 40hrs per week, 1 remote day per week. Shift start variable, but 9-5 typical.
Job Summary:
The Certified Medical Dosimetrist is a member of the Radiation Oncology planning team who is thoroughly familiar with the physical and geometric characteristics of the radiation equipment and radioactive sources commonly employed. Has had training and expertise necessary to measure and generate radiation dose distributions and calculations under the direction of the Radiation Oncology Physicist and Radiation Oncologists. Reports to the Department Manager for any departmental needs
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Patient Treatment Planning
Following the dose prescription specified by the Radiation Oncologist, plans a treatment technique by means of computer and/or manual computations that will deliver a prescribed dose to a defined tumor volume.
Coordinates treatment simulations and tumor localization, including CT and MRI when indicated for radiation therapy treatment planning.
Prepares or assists with the fabrication of compensating filters, custom shield, wedges and other beam modifying devices.
Prepares or assists with the production of molds, casts and other immobilization devices
Performs dosage calculations in the patients therapy chart and verifies the mathematical accuracy of all calculations weekly.
Assists in the application of specific methods of dosimetry (ion chamber, TLD or film) to special clinical problems.
May be involved in clinical trials and other research projects.
Keeps current on new treatment procedures and techniques.
Demonstrates skill in patient assessment, performing procedures and giving specialty care to patients.
Shows competence in radiation safety by following policies and procedures regarding the use of personal dosimetry and safe use of hazardous equipment
Training and Assisting Staff
Supervises the technical staff in the implementation of the treatment plan to coordinate the correct use of immobilization, field arrangements, and other treatment parameters
Provides technical assistance to the medical Physicist when requested in relation to radiation protection, qualitative and quantitative machine calibrations and quality assurance of the radiation producing equipment.
May assist in patient simulation and set up.
May be asked to do other pertinent activities
Planning HDR/LDR Treatments
Assists in intracavitary and interstitial sealed source procedures
Plans and calculates these plans and receives approval from Radiation Oncologist
Performs other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Education:
Bachelors Other or Other / Certificate Other
