Position Summary:

The Director Payment Services is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the credit union's payment operations. This includes debit and credit card services, electronic funds transfers (EFT), domestic and international wires, automated clearing house (ACH) payments, payment disputes, and peer-to-peer (P2P) payment services. The incumbent ensures that payment strategies are aligned with Everwise's strategic plan, develops efficient payment service delivery systems, manages relationships with payment vendors, and ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, and payment network regulations.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Oversee daily operations related to debit and credit card services, electronic funds transfers, ACH payments, domestic and international wire transfers, and P2P payment services.
  • Ensure seamless and secure transaction processing and resolve any operational issues that arise.
  • Monitor and manage payment-related metrics, ensuring service levels and performance standards are met or exceeded.
  • Develop and implement payment strategies that align with Everwise Credit Union's overall strategic plan.
  • Create and refine payment service delivery systems to ensure they are simple, efficient, and member friendly.
  • Identify and implement new payment technologies and services that enhance the member experience and meet evolving market demands.
  • Manage relationships with payment vendors, including negotiating contracts, monitoring service levels, and ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Collaborate with vendors and other external partners to implement new payment solutions and improve existing services.
  • Evaluate and select new vendors and partners as needed, ensuring they align with Everwise's strategic goals and standards.
  • Ensure all payment operations comply with applicable state and federal laws, as well as payment network regulations and standards.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for payment services to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry best practices and implement necessary changes to maintain compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the resolution of payment disputes, ensuring timely and fair outcomes for members.
  • Work closely with member service teams to address and resolve member inquiries and issues related to payment services.
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff to ensure they are knowledgeable and capable of supporting members effectively.

Knowledge/Skills:
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to coach, mentor, and manage teams.
  • Thorough knowledge of credit and debit card payment processing, ACH/EFT payment, wires, and peer-to-peer payment platforms.
  • Knowledge of emerging payment technologies and trends.
  • Understanding of bank and/or credit union retail/lending policies, and default enforcement clauses.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Interpersonal skills to work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, and sound decision-making abilities.
  • High-level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to member service.
  • Proficient in analyzing large datasets to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Efficiently, effectively, and concisely communicate with members, peer leaders, executive management, and outside vendors.
  • Ability to evaluate regulatory and legislative language and understand how it affects payments policy and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Assume additional responsibilities as necessary for the continued growth and advancement of Everwise.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, Information Technology, related field, or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of credit/debit card and payments experience.
  • 4+ years' experience leading others.
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory matters pertaining to payment processes.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective strategies to improve payment systems performance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
