Centralia College is located on a 30-acre campus in the heart of Centralia, Washington and has been serving students in the Lewis County region since 1925. As a comprehensive community college, Centralia College offers academic transfer and workforce programs, as well as adult basic education, ELL, and personal enrichment classes. The college also offers five Bachelor of Applied Science degrees: Information Technology - Application Development, Diesel Technology, Applied Management (Business), Behavioral Healthcare and Teacher Education.

In addition to the main campus in Centralia, Centralia College East in Morton is a smaller site that serves the needs of students in east Lewis County. Since the college is committed to the success of all students, Centralia College also provides educational programs at two corrections centers in southwest Washington - Garrett Heyns Education Center located in Shelton, Washington and the Cedar Creek Corrections Center located in Littlerock, Washington. In addition to Green Hill School in Chehalis, Washington. In total, the college serves more than 7,000 students annually. Job Description

The administration of the Arts & Sciences division which compromises four areas of study: 1) Arts, Humanities, & Communications; 2) Science, Engineering & Math; 3) Social Sciences; and 4) Exploratory. The Dean regularly exercises independent judgement, advocacy, and discretion in the administration of the following: class scheduling, new instructional program planning and development, course/program/staff evaluations, support services development and management, budget development and management, grant writing and administration. This position reports to the Vice-President of Instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all assigned instructional areas of study.

  • Lead, train, motivate, and evaluate personnel.

  • Lead, supervise, evaluate, and collaborate with faculty, and staff, in assigned areas of responsibility, and in adherence to negotiated agreements, applicable state and federal laws, accrediting bodies, and college policies and procedures.

  • Schedule faculty and staff workload and approve sick leave, time sheets, annual leave, and in-state travel in ctcLink.

  • Assist in the recruiting, hiring, and orienting of staff and faculty in areas of responsibility; facilitate professional development opportunities and campus-wide training efforts.

  • Collaborate with faculty to plan, develop, support, and implement curriculum and instructional activities, including assessment; provide curricular oversight of the assigned areas of responsibility.

  • Collaborate with faculty and campus leadership to implement college initiatives that promote student success and improve access for historically underserved populations.

  • Oversee the development of educational plans, master course outlines, and annual class schedules.

  • Research, write, and implement grants and contracts to support programs within each area of study.

  • Provide leadership and support for the ongoing evaluation of instructional programs including curriculum assessment and distribution reviews.

  • Coordination of accurate records and safety reports in accordance with State and Federal laws and licensing guidelines for all educational programs offered in assigned areas of study.

  • Attend and actively participate in campus committees: Assessment Committee (co-chair), Executive Management Team (EMT), Instructional Cabinet, Instructional Council and Curriculum Review Committee, Institutional Effectiveness, and Joint Student Services and Instruction meetings.

  • Attend monthly Board of Trustee Meetings.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Vice President of Instruction.

Outreach

  • Represent the college at community and state meetings and conferences, such as, Transfer Council and ICRC.

  • Establish and maintain articulations agreements with 4-year colleges and develop transfer pathways with baccalaureate institutions.

  • Provide extensive and accurate program information to potential students, public, representatives and agencies, and other educational institutions.

Communication

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with diverse racial, ethnic, gender, cultural and disabled populations.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

  • Provide communication of areas of study activities for the monthly Board of Trustees meetings and reports.

  • Resolve or assist in the resolution of conflict, problems, and complaints in a manner that support students and faculty while adhering to college policy and procedures.

  • Interpret, apply and communicate effectively orally and in writing, rules, regulations, policies and procedures to diverse groups.

Budget

  • Participate in the development and implementation of budget and operating procedures.

  • Review and approve expenditure or designated funds.

  • Effectively manage and monitor program budgets and equipment inventory.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in education or a discipline related to one or more areas within the assigned areas of study.

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office to create and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching at a college level.

  • Experience evaluating instructional activities (e.g. programs and courses)

  • Previous experience supervising faculty and staff

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in the decision-making process.

  • Demonstrated experience working with persons from diverse backgrounds including: sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, and physical and learning abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and practice consensus-based decision making.

Physical Requirements
  • Constantly sitting or standing for long durations of presentations/meetings.

  • Constantly moving about the campus to accomplish objectives.

  • Constantly communicates information orally and in writing.

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, copy machine, and computer printer.

  • Occasionally requires lifting up to 25 lbs.

Working Conditions

  • Most work is performed in office settings on a college campus.

  • Daily job assignments may require day, evening, weekend or holiday hours.

Conditions of Employment

This is a twelve (12) month per year, full-time administrative exempt position. The salary is $108,912 - $108,912 (DOQ/DOE) annually depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees. The position may participate in the TIAA/CREF retirement system.

Compensation

Annual Salary: $108,912 - $108,912 (DOQ/DOE)
