The ideal candidate will share Clovis Community College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As of Spring 2021, we currently enroll over 8,100 students in which 45% identify as Latinx, 12% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 3% as Black/African American, 33% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 6% as multiracial. Clovis Community College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

Reporting to the Dean of Student Services at Clovis Community College, the counselor assignment will include responsibility for the Early Alert program and working with probation and dismissal students. Duties include:

  • Counseling with broad range of community college counseling services, including career and educational planning, orientation, transfer, veteran services, student recruitment, and personal counseling;
  • Instruction in counseling classes for job preparation, career planning, study skills, transfer preparation, or group dynamics;
  • Assignment also includes multimedia classroom presentations and advising, large group presentations, implementing retention strategies, integrating technology into counseling
    functions, working with students and faculty members and other counselors;
  • Participate in the implementation of student success strategies;
  • Involvement in committee work & strategic planning efforts;
  • Implementation of student learning outcomes;
  • Perform other established duties and responsibilities of counselors;
  • Assume such other duties as may be assigned by the Dean of Student Services;
  • Duties may include extended day, evening and Saturday hours and assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices; AND

  • Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, OR

  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

(NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Experience working with a diverse student population;
  • Related work and professional experience;
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
  • Experience working with Early Alert programs;
  • Experience developing Student Educational Plans (SEPs);
  • Experience in conducting workshops and teaching courses in career and personal development;
  • Knowledge of California Community Colleges matriculation processes;
  • Knowledge and experience interpreting and utilizing articulation agreements and transfer requirements for community college students;
  • Experience in using and interpreting a variety of career assessment tools;
  • Experience working with high school partners;
  • Experience working with instructional faculty and staff to monitor dual enrollment courses.
Salary and Benefits:

Starting rates are $50.58 - $68.69 for lecture and $42.99 - $58.43 for lab. Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
