As a Business Intelligence Intern at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS), you will help to create insightful dashboards and discover data insights to help guide BCBSKS enterprise decisions. This opportunity provides learning opportunities in computer programming, data preparation and cleaning, data visualizations and analysis, and machine learning. In this role, you will play an important part in the end-to-end analysis of customer and operational data, from gathering source data from subject matter experts, to delivering business insights to key stakeholders.

What you'll do

  • Consult with internal stakeholders to understand business needs relevant to data analytics.
  • Collect and clean relevant data from various sources.
  • Analyze historical data for trends, patterns, and insights.
  • Create predictive analytics for scenario forecasting.
  • Develop data visualizations and interactive dashboards for internal stakeholders.
  • Report key findings to internal stakeholders, communicating advanced mathematical ideas in easily understood terms.
  • Prepare documentation, process maps, and modular software for use in various Business Intelligence applications.
  • Develop/maintain systems supported by Business Intelligence.
  • Prepare and/or design new reports and programs as needed.
  • Regularly correspond with and answer questions from supervision and management concerning the systems maintained by Business Intelligence.
  • Present summer projects in a final presentation to leadership.
  • Complete special projects as assigned

What you need

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate in a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts program with at least 1 year of study in one or more of the following majors: mathematics, computer science, data science, finance, or management information systems.
  • Requires a minimum GPA of 2.75.
  • Requires experience with at least one object-oriented programming language.
  • Ability to work with and learn various computer applications and programs utilized by the area.
  • Communicate effectively with employees in all organizational levels.
  • Have a proven record of low absenteeism.
  • Need to be self-motivated and be able to carry out activities with a minimum of supervision

Bonus if you have

  • Python is preferred.
  • Experience with SQL is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with Tableau, Power BI, or other data visualization tool is preferred.
