JOB RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Milieu Management and Care Delivery - Functions as behavioral/milieu leader across waking hours to ensure implementation of therapeutic milieu and group programming, (development, facilitation coaching of staff implementing groups). Oversees shift to shift application of individualized programming, coaching/oversight of crisis events for staff and patients. Takes lead of managing patient care across various settings; Adapts milieu to manage disruptive behaviors; designs and evaluates creative therapeutic programming based on evidence-based practice interventions, Leads in educating/precepting new staff. Ensures work area are safe and ready for next activity or shift; practices according to CCHMC and Divisional polices with emphasis on managing high risk patients. Has awareness of patients locations, by making rounds; monitors risk levels, alerts nurse to mental status changes. Leads in making shift assignments. Assigns daily tasks including environmental rounds, patient observation checks, etc. Ensures timely staff documentation. Participates in treatment rounds and facilitates staff participation consistent with patient assignment. Ensure materials/resources are available/prepared for group as well as appropriate allocated time. Facilitate ordering/management of resources and supports unit functions.
  • Patient/Family Interaction - In addition to responsibilities of MHS III-Encourages patients to make a plan for family meeting attendance and participation; promptly addresses customer service concerns and questions, attempts to meet customer needs before referring to others in the treatment team. Seeks out parent interactions during visiting, provides coaching to staff on engaging with patients and on implementation of positive reinforcement system as well as de-escalation and crisis management skills. During leisure activities and discussions regarding family expectations; provides parent coaching education regarding behavioral interventions and safety plans; demonstrates leadership to staff in working with diverse families by providing support to families and co-workers. Consistently integrates age specific and culturally diverse concepts into patient care, taking into consideration both the patient's chronological age and developmental functioning. Communicate regularly with interdisciplinary treatment team regarding plan for treatment including communication with family, expectations for treatment, and treatment progress. Oversees implementation of positive reinforcement system/token economy system by unit staff.
  • Group Therapy II - Develops group topics; educates new staff on group leadership skills; utilizes knowledge of development levels and psychiatric diagnosis to tailor groups to patient needs; able to adapt group to address behavioral issues; recognizes when group process is non-productive and demonstrates ability to adjust the group to make the group more productive. Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives with goal to improve patient outcomes; Provides oversight and support with on assignment of more complex patients; able to give constructive feedback to co-workers, educates and coaches new staff on the therapeutic use of 1 on 1; provides feedback to encourages ICMP completion. More leadership responsibilities, clinical experts plus the ability to lead teams. Generalized, working with compliance to achieve clinical outcomes. Attending rounds, leadership, milieu lead. Prioritization, independence, and detail orientation, May respond to referrals, complete patient assessments, round on patients, respond to crisis, and support bedside staff.
  • Crisis Management - Works with the Code Violet Response Team in responding to and managing crises effectively on unit. Participates, supports and coaches in episodes of seclusion/restraint when necessary. Supervise and coach staff in active implementation of treatment plans/behavior plans and interventions. Facilitate implementation of behavioral interventions in collaboration with the Behavior Specialist. Ensure staff complete appropriate documentation related to implementation of individualized behavioral programming/plans.
  • Family Education - Communicates clearly parental attitudes and behaviors that may affect treatment both verbally and in writing. Facilitate problem solving of behavioral-medical treatment options. Participate in team staffing of children and clinical case reviews as they occur. Provide for the exchange of appropriate patient care and clinical information when patients are admitted, referred, transferred or discharged Function as a member of the inpatient units to provide support and input regarding parental issues or child characteristics that influence the treatment of the child.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 2+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
