Job Summary
The Associate Electrical Engineer will assist and direct Technicians in designing and developing equipment setups and test procedures. The engineer is expected to perform varied and complex assignments for major systems at testing; design and develop test procedures and assist in the evaluation of test equipment required to perform quality checks; prepare recommendations for testing and documentation of procedures to be used for the product(s).
The position will be based onsite at our Vertiv Columbus, OH / Westerville, OH location.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Lab Supervisor and Electrical Engineering Manager to direct Test Technicians as needed in daily activity including job assignments and expectation of completion.
- Work closely with design engineering group to ensure test procedures/data meets expectations.
- Create test plans for customer equipment demonstrations.
- Acquisition of materials for prototypes.
- Review test progress and evaluate results.
- Perform required presentations utilizing test equipment for customer visits.
- Perform test validations and factory witness tests.
- Perform THD analysis and testing.
- Provide continuous support to engineering and support groups in order to provide internal and external customers with outstanding final quality test products.
- Create and revise unit wiring schematics and network connection drawings.
- Create and review electric panel layouts following relevant codes and standards.
- Create and revise wire harnesses.
- Perform VFD setup and parameter settings.
- Perform MODBUS communication setup.
- Work with the controls team to test, debug and troubleshoot programs.
- Perform instrumentation calibrations within the lab.
Requirements: - Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or 2-year Technical degree capable of learning and understanding electrical circuits and systems.
- Entry level, no prior experience.
- Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment, independently or as a member of a dynamic team; offer and receive constructive criticism.
- Leadership and communication skills. Ability to give direction to Test Technicians & communicate any test issues to all levels of management.
- Excellent communication skills with a professional attitude towards customer relations.
- Self-directed, good problem-solving skills.
- Preferred:
- Relevant internship or co-op experience.
- Controls experience: PLC, LabVIEW, or similar.
- Knowledge of 3-phase electrical circuits.
- Knowledge of digital and electronic circuitry.
- 3D CAD software experience.
- Ability to configure data acquisition systems.
- Ability to use temperature and pressure measurement instruments.
- Ability to use standard electrical instruments and hand tools.
- Ability to read and interpret industry test standards.
- Ability to read and interpret product schematics.
- Ability to be hands-on with products and test set-ups to troubleshoot and diagnose issues.
