The US Oncology Advocacy & Alliance Associate Director will be instrumental in solidifying AstraZeneca's vision to create long-term strategic partnerships with patient organizations, professional associations and independent patient advocates to help empower patients across key advocacy communities. This role will focus on AstraZeneca's efforts toward hematology and genitourinary cancers. In order to achieve this, this role will require the development of a national strategy and responsibility for identifying, owning and managing established relationships and collaborations with selected patient organization, professional associations, and key industry partners. These relationships may include partnering on programs to be supported through monetary contributions, as well as information-sharing and other opportunities for engagement around shared objectives for the organization and AstraZeneca, in compliance with all national guidelines and aligned to well-defined strategies.

What You'll Do:

  • Accountable for development of the US strategy, planning, execution, and delivery of a comprehensive patient advocacy group engagement plan for hematology and genitourinary cancers aligned to AstraZeneca business objectives.
  • Maintain two-way dialogue with patient advocacy groups to understand and identify specific unmet needs, represent AstraZeneca voice to the community, and represent advocacy perspective in the discovery, development, and delivery of AstraZeneca's therapeutic products.
  • Identify and develop new strategic relationships with patient and caregiver advocacy organizations in therapeutic area.
  • Serve as internal project lead for strategic partnerships, patient advocacy exchanges, and outputs (e.g., white papers), ensuring deliverables are met within scope, on time and within budget.
  • Represent PAG interests to internal cross-functional partners including, but not limited to: Commercial, Medical Affairs, Government Policy & Advocacy, Corporate Affairs, Clinical Research, Regulatory, Market Access, Global Patient Affairs, and Legal.
  • Communicate advocacy programs and activities to internal partners and represent the company's patient advocacy efforts and priorities externally.
  • Coordinate quarterly meetings with AstraZeneca leadership and PAGs to ensure continuity of relationships and trust building.
  • Partner with US Oncology Brand Communications, and Global Corporate Affairs colleagues to create media relations and communications to highlight partnerships, as needed.
  • Plan and lead patient organization and independent patient advocate engagement at major medical congresses
  • Handle reconciliation reports and other metrics identified for planned and ad-hoc funding to partners.
  • Manage agency partners and vendor relationships, including budget management and oversight.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree
  • At least 5-7 years' experience working with patients, and/or patient advocacy and professional associations
  • Effective communicator and storyteller
  • Project management capability, with knowledge of and direct experience working with patient advocacy groups and/or professional associations to develop and deliver programs and projects
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Ability to navigate complex and matrixed organizations and contribute as both a strategic counsellor and strong individual contributor

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience at a non-profit organization
  • Experience reviewing or applying for grants or corporate funding
  • Oncology experience
  • Ability to anticipate and adapt to change, with strong problem-solving skill
  • Ability to travel as required by the business

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $115,578 to $173,336. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
