Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:Student Affairs Information Technology (SAIT) serves as the IT support, development and administration team for the 17 departments within Student Affairs. SAIT is a hybrid organization, where some staff are located at and funded by a specific department, while other team members provide services to all of our customers. We support many critical services for our students, and we have the opportunity to oversee many unique applications.
Position Summary:This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Student Affairs Information Technology (SAIT) serves 18+ departments, each with unique business needs ranging from support of revenue-generating businesses to direct student support services. The Associate Director for Student Affairs IT will leverage a broad understanding of how IT can enable success in higher education, and specifically within the division of Student Affairs and each department. This position will have expertise in one or more of the technical areas managed, supported, or used by SAIT.
The Associate Director will work with the Director to provide strategic leadership and vision in planning, developing, implementing, integrating, and maintaining technology and information systems that support or advance the mission and goals of Student Affairs and/or its departments. This position will have day-to-day responsibilities for leading large projects or initiatives and responding to priorities driven by senior leadership within Student Affairs or from the IT Director. The Associate Director will also serve as the primary liaison to the Student Affairs Communication Council, providing technical expertise and leadership and supporting the development and implementation of the technical infrastructure needed to support the council's mission. This position will also provide leadership for the SAIT department in the Director's absence.
Master's and 1-2 years' experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 years' experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:* Experience and comfort with written and oral communication to a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences.
* Experience and success leading IT projects.
* Experience and success supporting or deploying system integrations that enables customer success.
* Broad working knowledge of most functional areas within the SAIT portfolio and technical expertise in at least one:
* Server/System Administration - Physical/VM/Cloud
* IT Security
* Web Application Development
* Web Design
* DevOps
* System Integration
* Database Management
* Desktop Support
* Analytical approach and ability to research and identify feasible solutions to division-wide technology challenges.
* A collaborative approach and ability to partner with team members, campus IT colleagues, and divisional stakeholders to meet business needs.
* Proactive and self-motivated professional who can identify opportunities and risks and exercise superior judgement.
* Experience managing employees, conflict resolution, team building.
* Experience leveraging agile methodologies.
* Experience with resource management, budgeting, and procurement.
* Technical experience managing SCCM, Active Directory & Group Policy.
* Experience leveraging Data Analytics and dashboard creation.
* Technical expertise in most functional areas within the SAIT portfolio.
