Job Summary
Under the leadership of the Director of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences International Programs (LASIP), the Associate Director for Education Abroad and International Exchange manages education abroad and exchange programming, including outreach, advising, and program administration to support the college's goal to deepen global and experiential learning opportunities for all students and faculty.
Duties & Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day management of outreach and advising, application, and program management for the LAS portfolio of education abroad programs and partners.

• Serve as primary contact for programmatic questions and policies, program budget, recruitment, and partner relations.

• Serve as primary administrator and contact for assigned portfolio programs and academic units across LAS to implement and increase access and diversity of education abroad programming and student/faculty participation in them.

• Oversee administration of incoming exchange programs for LAS.

• In collaboration with the Director of LAS International Programs, foster new and existing relationships with international partners and institutional exchange agreements.

• Liaise with Illinois International's Global Relations, contracts, and international partners throughout the process.

• Coordinate with the Office of International Admissions, International Student and Scholar Services, US embassies and Consulates in students' home countries, and the LAS Student Academic Affairs Office on academic policies pertaining to incoming exchange students.

• Lead development and implementation of programming for LAS exchange students, including budget management, event planning, partner/community relations, and assessment.

• Collaborate closely with the Director of LASIP and key campus and college stakeholders on the review and creation of academic and administrative processes and policies pertaining to education abroad programs, such as transcript and course approval.

• Represent LAS and LASIP on working groups and committees with campus partners working on international programs; coordinate the implementation of these policies with all relevant stakeholders.

• Supervises LASIP coordinators and advisor(s) under their purview and works with Director of LAS International Programs on onboarding/training of new staff.

• Manage education abroad outreach and promotional efforts through supervision of LASIP staff and LAS units, manage budget for promotion and outreach expenditures.

• Coordinate site visits and partner meetings, and represent LAS at international education conferences and meetings, both international and domestic.

• Other duties as assigned to further the mission of the unit.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree.

• A total of four (4) years in education, training and/or work experience in coordinating an international, student academic affairs and/or specialized advising programming area.

• Demonstrated experience in academic advising, supervising and managing advising or student affairs programs with internal and external student affairs partners. (Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)

Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in international education, international studies, or related field.

• One (1) year experience in leading or managing student affairs programming or student academic advising program.

• Experience working with national organizations and professional groups, such as NASFA, Forum, Diversity Abroad.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Ability and awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural and linguistic differences.
  • Commitment to access, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, Google Workspace, Zoom, web and social media, and Terra Dotta Systems (TDS).
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues and to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly those that enable the candidate to effectively represent LAS International Programs and communicate clearly with a wide range of constituencies including international partners, faculty, administrators, and students.
  • Professional fluency in English and at least one other language.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The budgeted salary range for the position is $70,000 to $85,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (remote work and in-person work in Champaign-Urbana each week) after 6 months in this role.
